hope it wasn't a psycho VOL fan, (If it was, they are threatening one of the best players on the team) Did he hurt one of the Vandy Players? A lot of them went out.

Of everyone I know he's one of the top 3 favorite players on the team. I can't imagine why someone would do it to any of our players. Much less him.

OCI said Carr is redshirting but Football Time In Tennessee said he can't because he has played quite a bit this year....which is it?

I've seen it mentioned that the coaches are going to get a medical redshirt for him. Don't know if that's true or possible but it's been thrown around.

Carr didn't play vs. Vandy.

LWS just posted on VQ these will be the redshirts this year...

M Jackson
King
Maggitt
Pickett
Jason Carr
Malik Brown
Ferguson
Jenkins
Kendrick
Miller
Sanders
Vickers

I am going back to this Neal/Lane debate. This will not be lost on most you here since generally this is a very sharp group of posters.

I would use Lane more than Neal. The reason the big boy CFB teams and NFL primarily use the stronger backs for the most carries is because they get the yards needed to make second and third down calls easier to manage. The D's they go against are so sophisticated and fast that it is relatively rare for a RB to break a long run as a season goes on as compared to completing a long pass, which happens regularly. Add in to this the proven fact that bigger backs seem to get better and stronger while increasing their YPC much of the time as games go on. They wear down the defenders and get into a rhythm that gets harder and harder to stop. Kind of like strong run blocking O-lines that just start mauling the defenders (Bama).

As a result I would give Lane 15-20 carries and Neal 8-10. Lane has a very good YPC running between the tackles. That draws the D in and away from the edges/outside where you could still use Neal, Pig and the receivers more. I would try to get Neal in space and use him catching the ball out of the backfield several times per game. And quite frankly I am very disappointed that Jake/Butch have not see it that way. Which could be one of the primary reasons we stink on offense.

This may have already been posted a few weeks ago and I missed it but I heard on the radio this evening that the reason Dobbs played against Bama was because Ferguson had a broken tibia. I do believe they said tibia and not fibula but both are lower leg bones.

I agree. I think the coaches agree too and that's why they rode Neal so Lane would be healthy to tote the load next year. Butch actually touched on this in today's Monday presser and was saying that Neal was simply out performing Lane and fit certain plays they wanted to run better. So based on the clear fact that Lane is as good or in my opinion has a higher ceiling, I'm thinking Butch was just saying what he wants people to think. Coach speak or whatever. Lane and Hurd are gona be a great one two punch next year IMO.

I haven't read a post in this thread since page 157(Sat am). I'm still tore up about losing to those punks and I guess I just haven't felt like reading about it.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure these have been discussed already but, just a few thoughts, fwiw.

Losing North early was freaking huge. I know he's been quite impressive as a true Fr but I can't believe how much of a drop off there was in our wr corp without him. If seeing that doesn't convince Malone (and other wr commits/targets) how bad he's needed idk what will.

Dobbs can take some of the blame for the lack of passing game too. He had an off night. I thought he'd play much better, with or without North. His two ints were wtf's. He made some nice plays with his feet but I thought he also took some bad sacks. Freshmen mistakes.

Marlin Lane should've gotten a lot more carries. It's not that Neal was doing terrible bc he wasn't. It's just Lane was breaking off large chunks of yards almost every time he touched it and was straight north/south. Hate to say it but, I think Neal was given more carries bc he was the Sr and it may have costs us the game not going with the hot Lane more. I'm talking a lot more.

I thought the defense played pretty darn good overall. We held their running game in check, held Mathews in check for the most part until towards the end and caused 4 turnovers. Three being fumbles. What the D didn't do all that well, imo, is contain and get after their qb consistently for sacks and qb hurries.

I hate to bring officiating into the discussion but, I think we got hosed on at least two crucial calls. The main one being the 4th and 1 at the end. Although I think the spot on the field favored us, there was absolutely no damn way they had conclusive evidence to overturn that call. No. Damn. Way.

What stings the most is how many chances we had to win the game. That and losing to a coach as arrogant and classless as JF. I was absolutely loving seeing his reactions when the cameras kept showing him after we made a big play.

In the end, we had plenty of chances to put the game away and just didn't. Almost felt like I was watching last year's team smh. Hopefully we can learn from it and move on. Sucks azz we aren't going bowling....again. On the bright side, even though there's a dead period in Dec, Butch and this staff will have more time to focus on closing out this current recruiting class as well as continuing to recruit and plan for the 15 class and beyond.

Last thing I'll say, whether JF sees the writing on the wall and leaves The Volunteer state or decides to stay, that shat ain't happening ever again as long as Butch is at UT. Our current class coming in will have enough talent in it to make sure of it. Not to mention all the other top classes that are soon to follow. vu just beat us twice in a row for the first time since the 1920's. This still is and always will be OUR STATE! Deal with it or GTFO, JF!

That's correct. If ferguson wasn't hurt he would have played over Dobbs. Hubbs said the other day that Ferguson throws the ball the best in practice out of all the QB's. Too bad for him and us he hurt his leg the week before he would have been the next man up. Oh well, should make for an interesting QB battle this offseason.

Lets all pray he has a redshirt freshman season like Jaimes or Mansiel.

I'd rather have full years of Fergie than him waste his time trying to make our upperclass scrubs look good

Thanks. For whatever reason I thought he had an ankle injury (because of the "walking boot").
