Recruiting Forum Football Talk IV

Some other names to watch with the Vols in the coming weeks, according to folks we've talked to at both the high school and junior college ranks, are Jaylen Miller, Maurice Swain and Damarious Randall. Also, don't think for any amount of time that Jones & Co. are ready to stop pursuing Cameron Toney or Mackensie Alexander. Both prospects continue to be guys that the new Vols' regime are working feverishly to remain in the thick of their recruiting stretch run.

Lemme put this out there before some idiots run the wrong way with it. Swain just retweeted this, but then said its the fake UT (meaning Texas)

@mikefinger: UT official says school "is aware of situation and gathering information" about story of alleged sexual assault involving two UT players.

Nothing to see here, the sky is not falling.

If I were a recruit Id be scared to come to UT if I had other offers from more stable teams. JMHO

@Niebuhr247: A lot -- and I mean a LOT -- of top 2014 Georgia kids are talking about #OhioState these days.”

Not the kind of news I like to hear, especially in a place where we need to pull big time prospects.

You are not my brother. So what if I do not fall in line and kiss BJ's ring. I am taking a wait and see approach before I dive in head first. I hate the spread offense. If that is what we run, many others will not like the level of talent that it will lend itself to in recruiting.

Top level players at positions want to play in an offense that showcases their talent for the next level. If you have a Tebow, Newton or another physical freak, you can run it efficiently in the SEC.

Casual fans do not see any problem with changes to our offensive schemes.. Those who have played the game at higher levels than high school understand what I am coming from.

The ran the spread read offense the entire game. That is their scheme.

The spread read is not one or two plays. It is an entire scheme that affects the blocking schemes, the running lanes, the QB reads, and the WR routes.

Yes. We have the talent to run a top notch pro style offense and have had that kind of talent for over 30 plus years. Tweak it some, but leave most of it alone.

Focus on improving the defense by adding some size and speed. That is what this program needs. Overhauling the offensive scheme is the last thing that this program needs.

Just because you line up 4 or 5 WRs does not mean that you are running a spread offense. It merely means that you are putting 5 WRs into the play.

The spread read nor the spread read option are not 4 or 5 WRs lined up wide. They involve a totally different blocking scheme, running lanes, QB reads on the defensive ends and LBers, and different WR routes. You can run it with a tight formation, 1 WR, 2 WR, 3 WR, 4 WR or 5 WR. It is a completely different scheme than a traditional multiple set pro-style offense.

What people need to understand about the spread read, is that it takes a different skill set than you would want to run a traditional multiple formation pro style offense featuring a power running game. Teams that traditionally run it, are teams that do not have the talent that traditional powerhouses have and use it as more of an equalizer.

On the offensive line, you will be see us recruiting smaller offensive linemen who are quicker and more agile than what we have been recruiting. However, they will not be as big or strong. We won't be going after or landing a lot of the behemoth offensive tackles like Antonio Richardson or huge roadgraders like Zach Fulton. We will be going after guys to fit the offense rather than fitting the offense around the vast talent that you can recruit.

At QB, we will recruit more mobile QBs than we have in the past. Some will like that and some will not. In most cases, the drop back QBs are usually the highest rated and attract complimenting players to the program when you get them to commit. That is not always the case when you get a QB to fit your spread read system. Think about how we have used a QB commit to land complimenting stud WRs.

At runningback, you will see us recruiting more agile running backs and fewer of the big brutes that Alabama or LSU get. Of course, we haven't been getting those guys in several years. At WR, we will go after some smaller guys to play the slot. They will be tweener WRs that are often borderline 3 star WRs, for the star watchers. I hope that I am completely wrong, but that is what you usually get in running the spread read.

You will see that our recruiting will change the type of players that we recruit.

If it is not broken, why break it anyways?

All of this is what I've been saying since the day CBJ was hired & why I haven't went all in on the hire, yet. I don't think he can win on a consistent basis using that offense in the SEC. Add in I don't think he will be able to recruit to the level needed to sustain success also. JMO & I have a right to that opinion so save the stop being negative & immature posts.

Anybody else get the feeling this class is either going to the talk of college football on signing day or a big disappointment? No in between.

I think the bigtime recruits are either going to come as a group or not at all.

I have a very hard time seeing this class finish in the top 25. I think we miss out on Green & Lawson, we may have a good chance at North. I think this class finishes off w/ a ton of 3*s & maybe 1-2 4*'s.

If that happens I think it starts CBJ out on the wrong foot already, he needs talent ASAP. We have an influx of depth & talent graduating/leaving early after next season especially in the trenches. Which could make 2014 just as bad as 2012-2013, 2 years of back to back bad seasons by CBJ would have the fans ready to run him out of town.

Jmoore, if we kept the 14 recruits we have now and added just 3stars for the last 11 spots+ it wouldn't be worse than 20th. Not top 25? Crazy talk.

This class won't finish out of the top 25. And even IF it does..how could you blame that on coach Jones? Dooley and Sal were the ones that fudged this class up and all the relationships.

First, we may not keep the 14 we have right now. Carr & Skipper are looking around, lose Carr & that's 1 lose 4*. I find it hard to believe it will finish in the top 25. Hope I'm wrong.

I never said it was all CBJ's fault.

Based on what? I think we've gained momentum with these two since Dooley left.

Also, there is absolutely no way we finish outside the top 25. That is outlandish.

Hubbs said Carr was solid. And what's the big deal if we lose skipper to you..you hated the pickup when he committed.
