Per Hubbs this morning:

Latrell Scott, Des Kitchings are both interested in the job. I think Troy Walters might have some interest in it.

Kippy Brown does not from what I'm told.

Mike Bajakian worked in Chicago with Darryl Drake, who has college experience, but I think Drake wants to say in the NFL.

Tony Dews is the WR coach at Arizona and worked at Central Michigan from 2004-2005 when Butch Jones was a coordinator there. But he's only been at Arizona a year and has worked with Rich Rod at West Virginia and Michigan so you would think he's pretty committed to Rich Rod.

Erik Campbell is at Iowa, but used to coach at Michigan when assistant head coach Steve Stripling was there.

Azzanni who is at Wisconsin has ties to Jones as well. And would be interested if Jones went that direction. The first thought has been that Jones would prefer a minority coach in that role.

So there are some guys with some ties, but I don't know that they are on Jones' list other than we know he researched Scott yesterday morning.

I have been trying to research Troy Walters this afternoon. I don't know that Tennessee would have any interest, but he's a name I'm research.

I don't see anyway on Pat Washington. Woods and Gus Malzahn have worked together for several years. I wonder if Gus finds a spot for him at Auburn.

Skipper has heard from Jones and they talked over the weekend. Trying to find out if Mahoney has been out there. Goeas hadn't heard from Tennessee as of Monday night. Will check back tonight.

-Zach Azzanni Bio, University of Wisconsin

-Urban Meyer on Zach Azzanni

Urban also called Azzanni a "relentless" recruiter.

What was the timing of azzanni being hired at Wisconsin and urban being hired at OHS??

Is it a red flag that urban didn't hire him at OHS?

Was he offered Arkansas job??

CBJ has contacted Dan Skipper. but Colton Goeas has not been contacted yet.

no and wouldnt be surprised to see Goeas leave as well unless they think he can slide over to DE

that being said we need to start landing some LB's b/c now the cupboard is pretty bare
---
doesnt surprise me at all - those big slow 3-4 MLB types that can take on OL arent as much use in a 4-3 where speed is more important

Hmm no mention of Craig. :cray:

if you want a gator fans perspective on azzanni he didnt really do anything i mean he was WR coach for 1 yr then gone

On LB targets...

"I think they are still in it with Jermaine Grace, they are going to try and get back in it with Trey Johnson since Thigpen is here. Maybe the Cunningham kid from Alabama, the Powell kid that decommitted from Florida knew Thigpen. I think some more random linebackers from Florida will jump on the list, just ones we haven't heard of.

People have to remember they are going through and evaluating a lot of guys again to see if they think they can play in this league. The board is still developing."

- P Fort

LB is very concerning to me - hopefully we can get Jermaine Grace and/or Trey Johnson on board - really need some LB's that can run

Not sure, sounds like a problem for Google to solve.

and No, I don't think it's a red flag. You can only have one WR coach on your staff. Urban may not have thought enough of Azzanni to consider him the BEST WR coach, but he sure thought enough of him to endorse him heavily. He would be a great hire for us.

Edit: he was at Wisconsin 2 years.

Was he offered Arkansas job??

I think Arkansas is going to hire its OC before hiring any offensive coaches. I'm sure Azzanni will be in consideration.

P. Fort on Woulard

"I think the severity of the broken ankle is keeping a few teams, and likely Tennessee, away."

Thanks for posting this. In reading about Woulard I have been unsure how much this injury should be considered a factor.

Azzanni was hired at Wisconsin in middle January. That means Urban passed over him for whatever reason. Also if he doesn't have a job at Arkansas then that's another issue.

My first impression is getting worse as I research more. I am hoping this isn't the hire

I mean, that's fine, because it's your opinion. Again, Urban can only hire one guy, so if you don't like him simply for the fact that he was passed over by a coach, I think that's a bit harsh. Tee Martin was passed over by Derek Dooley.

Zach has won WR COTY and was endorsed as a relentless coach and relentless recruiter by one of the best coaches in the business. That's enough for me. I'm sure Urban Meyer knows a handful of relentless coaches and relentless recruiters that could've led to him hiring someone else; after all, he has a lot of contacts in football.

Urban hired a guy that had been a GA for him at florida and had only been full time at temple ahead of him. Not good

Id be really surprised if we dont have someone hired at this position by Friday.

Dead time begins Monday 17th?

heres something 1 of the mods on the gator 247 site had to say about azzanni

I think he gets a lot of unwarranted heat from Florida fans.

He was only here for a year working with a cast of receivers that has proven it can't do much regardless of who's coach. Azzani was an extremely technical coach and related very well to all his players, and I've been told that by multiple people. He's extremely well thought-of in the coaching industry and a guy I'd expect to move up quickly if he can get into the right situation.

I was saying urban hired one of his ga at florida over azzanni at OHS.

Sounds like Urban has a track record of doing that then. What does that have against Azzanni? In fact, when Billy Gonzales bolted from Florida, Azzanni was hired less than 24 hours later. To me, that speaks volumes as to what Meyer thinks about him.

In the end, he won WR COTY under Meyer. Who knows why Urban went in a different direction? Our entire offensive line endorsed Pittman, but he was canned. That doesn't diminish that fact that he was a good coach and a good recruiter.

You like the thought of azzanni??

I have nothing more than my first impression and what read about him online. More bad than good so far

I'm not a WR coach expert but I think his resume looks pretty darn good.

But more importantly is CBJ wanting him as WRC? He was his WRC at CMU from 07-09, so if he's offered the job that's probably a good indication he's a pretty good coach. Or at least in the eyes of the head coach.

And aren't we supposed to let him do his job with staff hires and recruiting, like whether to offer Woulard or not, for example?

I agree the urban thing alone doesn't mean bad things but if he isn't being brought to Arkansas then things are trending poorly. Not sure where he stands at Arkansas but that would be nice to know
