I also feel like once we figure out what the NCAA is going to do (if anything) that'll clear a lotta the road blocks that exist for hiring here. Sure it'd be great for Heupel to nail the staff first try, but if he gets us back to 7-9 wins and needs to upgrade or overhaul his defensive staff and any sort of NCAA punishment has already been handed down or is over he'll have less trouble hiring the new guy.

Still haven't seen anything definitive on Washington either way from anybody. Baker or whoever could just be another feeler they've thrown out while they wait for an answer. Feels like it could still go either way. Hes probably making the decision with his family tonight and we'll find out in the morning.

I'm not holding my breath. But hopefully he sees the light.
Would think OSU would make it clear to everybody that he's returning, when it inevitably happens

Yeah, I don't see anything different on Buckeye twitter from 3 hours ago.

My dad and a few of his old friends had a picture with him from the 1998 season that he had kept up for years. He burnt that picture 2 weeks ago
As much as I get angry with Fulmer, just remember he was the last head coach to help win the NC for TN. I put more blame on the admin for basically giving him a get out of jail for life card and making the critical mistake of wanting to be his friend instead of his employer for just winning one championship.

I mentioned it earlier but I’m telling y’all, KS isn’t going to be butthurt. He gets paid regardless. And who’s to say he can’t adjust his D philosophy to cater to an up tempo offense. He has some age on him. If he gets the call, he could be a proven guy that helps get his alma mater through a tough patch for a few years. If it works, he’s a hero. If it doesn’t, he has sanctions to blame. All the while he’s still getting paid and can either retire or find another landing spot.
I don't think Steele has many good options tbh, he just got caught trying to back door the HC position at the barn. We're struck with each other, JH doesn't seem to want him except for analyst and Steele by some accounts isn't happy with how things played out.

Cut was the brains of the operation. When he came back it basically bought Fulmer more time to sink the program.

I think a lot of people are in denial how bad the program is—don’t mean it can’t get better but I think the whole “just back up the Brinks truck” crew will think twice.

I don't think it helps that us and Auburn are the only teams that have to play UGA and Bama every year. They've both been smashing in recruiting for awhile now and that's just a tough perception to overcome nationally right now. Especially when you mix in potential sanctions.

Sucks. You just gotta hope we get the hire right whoever it is. Might need some lucky breaks to get back in the picture again.

Also I feel that our national (and local) perception is currently worse than reality. But perception holds weight. I think we could surprise a lot of people early on. We aren't Vandy. We played like it last year but those results were far below our potential due to underlying team dynamics. Hopefully Heupel has some early success and changes the conversation about us. Winning changes things. Even just winning the games we're supposed to and looking better. Next offseason we could have a much different outlook.

But yeah. Tonight feels bleak and all that feels far away. What else can you do but hope for the best?

The only thing that looks bad is the state of the program. The fans are a byproduct of the dysfunction.

Right now the only people who look like fools are the fans.

It’s clear the school wouldn’t get its first choices.
it didn’t.
here’s what reality looks like:
we hired the best guys who want to be here.

If the negotiations went too long for your likings then you guys have no grasp on reality not any business sense.

We’re in the process of hiring a staff after the previous AD/coach created a ****ing mess.

It’s incredible. We are a fan base full of Phil Fulmer’s who still think it’s 1999. So much so that this place was in love with Fulmer being named AD

LOL insanity!

Part of the issue appears to be flirting with people who don't want to be here too long instead of moving on. Couple that with him preaching confidentiality from his side and complaining about leaks when the leaks obviously came from the coaches he was courting.

The fans are simply a by-product of the disfunction of this administration to this point. It remains to be seen whether or not we have anyone more competent running the show now. DW is swimming in much deeper waters than he's used to. He's a sharp guy and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, especially since he was dealt a very difficult hand and chose to play it anyway. But make no mistake, he's had to learn some lessons on the job he wasn't totally prepared for.

The biggest reason for the fans concern for this particular hire is the importance for JH. He has to have a guy that can be a co head coach for the defensive side at this level. If he can't get that he doesn't stand a chance in this league. He knows it, hell we all do.

Nobody has done more for black coaches than TN. I can think of at least 3 who have gotten major promotions and raises this last go around. #Haynesworth

All the credit should go to Mike Gundy. He was the original innovator that paved the path forward on how to play a desperate TN for multiple raises and contract stipulations.
