He will never sniff first or second place here.
People are falling in love with his record at Syracuse, but it’s really not that great. You can say he brought them back from 4 wins in 4 seasons or whatever, but he was only above .500 for 2 of his four seasons there. Also, it was a terrible conference against terrible competition.

Alright this is it, find me one time an assistant coach has been hired for a head coach before the head coach has been hired, good Lord.
We're talking about 2 different things, I never said Steele was hired for Pruitt you did. I'm saying when a coach gets involved with a job he starts to make calls to assemble a staff and that's fact

I wouldn’t say he “won” at ole miss. He had one great year which was followed up by a dud and then fired for cheating. i think he did a good job but some people are acting like he won 2 titles. In the same season after they beat bama they got beat 30-0 to Arkansas and then 42-3 to TCU.
I remember...I have never been on the Freeze train.

This All Day Long. Freeze is not going to be hired here and for that I'm grateful. He isn't this second coming of Lombardi that some are making him out to be. He had some big highs at Ole Miss but like Hank said....a thoroughly mediocre overall tenure. All while cheating like crazy, which he is probably doing on a larger scale at Liberty. It's not quite SMU stuff but suffice it to say he is still doing things that he won't get away with in Knoxville at present. Again, glad he wont be our guy.

I do think there’s a chance Steele wouldn’t mind taking small role here at least to have a year to relax and weigh his options. Not like he’s needing the money. Chip Long basically did the same thing.

It makes a lot more sense for him to wind it down doing something less stressful while staying involved in the game. He could really help a new coach with no SEC experience get acclimated. Money would probably not be the driver with him turning 63 in March. He's probably in good shape financially.
