College football seems to have changed so much since 2013/14.

Defense doesn’t really exist anymore. Definitely not elite defenses.

Look at uga. That SHOULD be a national championship caliber defense. Incredible collection of talent. But they still got rolled every time they faced good QBs.

Yeah, it's changed a lot. The improvement in QB and WR play has been staggering recently. The offenses are so good at getting the ball out quickly elite defenses can't dominate with the pass rush. The best defenses have smaller passing windows but can still get lit up by a good passing game. This seemed to get even worse this year as COVID put the defenses further behind the offenses if the offenses had good QBs.

That's my one hesitation about firing Pruitt. It's hard to overstate how big a disadvantage UT was at with the QB position. The QB position is Pruitt's responsibility but COVID made it really hard to get Bailey ready. Several of the games we lost would have gone the other way if we'd switched QBs with the other team. I know the team has a other shortcomings but a weak QB makes all those stand out more.

My take from the game yesterday. There is no way Dee Beckwith should ever be on the bench. EVER.
He looks like Najee Harris. You could line him up all over the field. We have 4 good running backs. Why the hell were we just using Gray and chandler all year. If we wanted to be a run heavy team, we should have rotated those guys (and let HB be the guy handing it to them from the second half of KY on)

I see a lot of posts that say we would have 2-3 more wins if we had started off with Bailey. I don't think that is true. We would have been closer in the blowouts, but our defense has not really played winning football all year. That is more concerning to me than Pruitt's stubbornness to keep playing JG. The fact that our defense has sucked so bad should be the biggest indicator that Pruitt should be gone yesterday.

Agreed.

He’s had three years to install a system and by his own admission there are plays that he believes would work that he can’t call during a game.

Correct. we lost because our defense put zero pressure on the other team's QB, and we kept trotting our 4th string QB out.

At the same time im curious to see how the RB rotation works out.
Next year we could have. Gray, Small, Beckwith, Whitehead,Hodge, Evans, Brown, Wright. Thats a lot of mouths to feed at the RB position.
