If they won’t fire him this year after only winning 3 games they won’t fire him next year unless he misses a bowl. 6-6 next fall will be good enough for UT to give him a 5th year. Bet on that.

“He doubled his win total!!”

It will take 7 wins to keep him

We will be worse in year 4 than year 2, but because year 3 was so bad, it will be seen as progress.

Remember that Dooley and Butch get additional seasons if they just managed to crawl to a 6-6 bowl game in 2012 and 2017. That’s the expectations for the program now.

For all those that know UT doesn’t care about wining etc etc - why do you think a coaching search is the answer? Genuinely curious.

To me, we’ve tried this and failed. Over and over again.

Why not let a great DC with a solid pedigree try to learn to be a head coach for a couple more years, instead of hiring a new coach and “letting him get his players” for the next couple years?

Because when you know a coach has hit their ceiling it’s time to determine a successor. Just because we’ve made poor hires in the past doesn’t mean we stop trying. That’s a defeatist attitude.

Some fans don’t want to make a change because they don’t see a guaranteed, sure fire winner. Well, nothing is guaranteed. You have to step up to the plate and swing.

On the other hand we can continue to set records for terrible Tennessee teams. Some fans are just happy to see orange men running around on Saturdays. I can remember a well known member of this forum stating they’d rather lose with Pruitt than win with Mullen. Well, they’ve got their wish.

IDGAS what Jeremy told them. Who wouldn’t tell a prospective employer it would take 4-5 years to “rebuild,” given our superficial troubles at the time? Pruitt said that not because it was true, he said it because he knew we’d be dumb enough to pack his pockets. The right coach wouldn’t be 3-6 at this point, pandemic or not.

We likely beat, or play close, Auburn, Kentucky, and Arkansas with Bailey at QB, and we have a fighting chance against Georgia.

That decision is on Pruitt.

And that still doesn’t explain why we can’t cover slants and why multi-year starters can’t get lined up right.

It was amazing watching a depleted MSU effectively shut down Auburn for most of the game, and they were like “Yeah, the DC has the same philosophy as Leach, just keep it simple and execute.”

Looks like he’s going to be back.....smh
So it took a W (albeit unconvincingly for 1 whole half) against a co-ed intramural team to put hope back in Gump? Got it. Now I know this AD is a lost cause. Whatever good will has been done for the other sports is tossed completely out the window about 500 miles back with a decision to retain this pathetic excuse of a “coach”.

Butch was fired before the 6-6 benchmark was gone

4-6

I think most folks will be backpedaling next week about Fulmer and what he perceived to be acceptable. The speculation that he cares more about himself than the university at this point of his career is laughable. He will pull through, I’m guessing he just isn’t vocal like some wish he would be at the moment.

not the point. Vandy is in SEC, we won.

after six games of listening to bellyaching and teeth gnashing. Happy for this team and for this program. I want Pruitt to succeed until its time for him to not.

It IS the point. They are an historically bad SEC team that had half of their players available. You are doing mental gymnastics to make that a milestone win. It’s meaningless. But if it makes you happy, great.

Because he's not a great dc. He's built his reputation on the backs of elite players. He's all talk. If he was anyway a decent dc, our defense could cover a slant. The guy's a fraud.

Seeing that he is losing most of his 2021 class, how are we suppose to get better? All we asked for was to see improvement especially year3. To see a competitive team that has a chance to beat any team in the SEC on any given Saturday but what did we get, a team that looked like it was year 1 with CP not year 3.

I’ve long said I don’t think a change is happening this year regardless. So I’m just enjoying a win vs a “rival” that quite frankly has been far too competitive vs us lately. This year has sucked but I enjoy beating uscjr, mizzou, and andy back to back years. I enjoyed seeing some of the young guys make plays. Happy to see Beckwith run the ball. Stuff like that. I like what the QBs are showing.

they whipped our asses very recently. severap times. im tickled anytime we beat Commedoors.

Further, never said it was a milestone. Said it will quell SOME of the doom and gloom. The players were having fun, and, smiling. Playing hard. All I can ask.

There are no positives to bringing Pruitt back. We are only delaying the inevitable if we do. He's fired this year, next year, or at the very latest the year after.

Recruiting is crumbling. It will only get worse as we try and recruit with a perceived lame duck coach. How is it going to get any better than it is now?

There will be massive staff turnover even if he is brought back. New coaches are going to want 2-3 year deals. That's even more buyout money when the inevitable happens. Also, what stud coaches are going to come here given Pruitt's reputation in meddling and the scorching hot seat he's on?

Openings around college football right now are minimal and will probably remain that way this year. What if Auburn and LSU open next season? What if Texas opens next year? We don't want to compete against those teams.

We've been here before and we've seen how this story ends. We will wait too long again because we are UT and that's what we do.

There is a guy with proven SEC success that I believe would turn us around very quickly. He would also crawl here to have this job, but we won't give him the time of day because we're UT and we're too good for him.
