I'm excited for the defensive upgrades for sure. Just don't like bringing in so many big east coaches as a whole when he's been given a huge pot for assistants and had a proven elite assistant in Pittman. Might still work out, but makes me skeptical.

Just want to be clear not freaking out nor B!tchin. Just discussing and asking questions that I may better understand whats going on and just passing on MO. I am excited to see who he brings in. Wondering if ya'll ave heard anything on coaches that he may be bring in besides his own. I expected him to bring some of his staff.

Most successful coaches regardless of where they are coming from or where they are going bring 4-5 of their own men. First, comfort level and understanding the system is key. Secondly, if you've been successful with these coaches why clean house? Darin Hinshaw's exist at a lot of schools. He was a good recruiter mixed in with average and bad recruiters that made him look like Kevin Steele. Even Brent said that Dooley's staff did not work as hard as Fulmers. Think about that... We all thought many on Fulmers staff were lazy recruiters.
Now back to my initial comments... Ill give you 2 examples of coaches that came from small schools that had success and then to the SEC.
First Urban Meyer from Utah. He fired everyone but Charlie Strong. A staff that couldn't really coach but very very good recruiters. He brought with him 4 coaches from Utah and it would have been 5 but his OC got promoted to head coach. So what did Urban Meyer do? Go find the best OC in the country like the GQ would recommend? No. He promoted his running backs coach to OC a guy named Dan Mullen. Again understanding the system is key. This staff many with NO Southern ties went on to put together maybe the greatest recruiting class in history one year later.
Next hugh Freeze. We can all agree that his staff has done a tremendous job this year and on the recruiting trail. He I believe also retained one coach from the previous staff. As NYC posted earlier, if the former staff has been losing best you rid yourself of those coaches because that's what the players will associate with them. He brought 4 guys with him from Arkansas State including his DC and recruiting coordinator. As OC he brought in Dan Werner who I believe he had worked with under Ed Orgeron. Got Matt Luke from Duke because he is an Ole Miss guy and even made him co-OC. Then he brought in a former Rebel in Grant Heard who has hardly any expirience in coaching... or atleast I've never heard of him.
Trying to put together a superstar staff like a lane kiffin may excite the fans but the whole thing breaks down internally eventually. Look at Kiffins staffs or even Chizik's at Auburn.
Remember this isn't about pleasing the fans the fans don't have to work side by side with Trooper Taylor, Ed Orgeron or Van Gorder. They may be great recruiters or even coaches but if they as individuals don't fit your way of thinking (system) they will be counter productive to your success I promise.
It depends on which position T.J. Weist coaches. If he is the receivers coach then he is looking for a tight ends coach. I'm not sure who he would hire there. But I would think it would have to be a guy with SEC ties to recruit.
His DC in my opinion is going to be his DC at Cincy John Jancek. And I think Stribling is coming with him to be his DL coach.
So I think it could look like this:
HC - Butch Jones
OC/QB - Mike Bajakian
OL - Don Mahony
RB - Jay Graham
WR - T.J. Weist (not as sure here)
TE - ?????
DC/LB - John Jancek
DL - Steve Stripling
DB - ???
Last position - ???? I don't know if he's going to have a separate linebackers coach, two DB coaches, or a qb's coach. I'm not sure how the staff arrangement is going to be. He had two defensive backs coaches at Cincy.
Please note that I'm not saying this is done, but based on what we are hearing today and trying to put the puzzle together this is what it feels like it might look like.

Jones has at least a $3M budget for assistants, so he's going to have to pay somebody. I think the staff will look something like this:
OC/QB - Bajakian
RB - Graham
WR/RC - Weist
TE -
OL - Mahoney
DC/LB - Jancek
DL - Stripling
CB -
S/ST - Elder
Dave Clawson: another cereberal OC who went to Williams College and attempted to introduce a zone blocking scheme at UT. Not sure it means anything, just think its interesting.
Urban Meyer was from the Mountain West Conference. With a spread offense. Wonder how that turned out.
Les Miles was from Okie State with a spread option style of offense.
Nick Saban was from Mich.State. Conservative boring pro style offense.
Kevin Sumlin is from Houston and Conference USA. With a spread offense.
Good coaches win games wherever they go with their systems.
I've not heard anyone mention what outside staff might look like. Tee was hinted at maybe being in play, maybe not now with new developments. I'd say the D is the most likely spots.
I thought this was a good post from VQ. Let it play out.
