If CBJ wants a few TN guys why not offer Chavis? lol I wish we could get Bud Foster from VA Tech, best in the bizz. It would be thrilling to get this blue chip dual-threat QB! We need about 5-6 4*'s and 1-2 5*'s to crack the top 10..thoughts on that?

Vonn Bell is a MUST! Come on Butch, work your magic!

HONOR THY VOLS...CHERISH THEM...

I think at the very least Tennessee went from hiring an young, enthusiastic, administrator/director and hoping he could coach football to hiring a young, motivated FOOTBALL coach. The main comparison to Dooley is that Jones won't get UT in NCAA jail.

Smokescreen IMO

and

SOON...

(Original Babyavi and Ron, I don't mean this as a dig to you)

None taken buddy. I came in this morning and took my lumps and apologized for misleading everyone for something that I whole-heartedly believed would happen. I was disappointed and enraged by our hire, but that was ignorant of me, as I hadn't really looked into who Butch Jones really was. The one thing that I learned very quickly today about our new coach is that his players respect him because he cares. How many coaches would get a round of applause from the players that he is LEAVING? He hugged some of the players on OUR team that he recruited and remembered them...they weren't just another prospect to him. He cares about our traditions. You can tell it in the presser...I got chills when he ended his opening statement with "I will give my all for Tennessee today." That's what it's all about. I hope he hires a killer staff, and would love to see it have a Vol flavor. Jay and Tee for sure..would love to see him bring in Marion Hobby from Clemson and maybe Dale Jones, but I'm sure that this is dreaming.

I really think its to late for Vonn. I wish it wasn't, but I think he has already made up his mind. Jones needs to get staff in place and hit recruiting full force. I'm sure he will make some calls himself in the mean time along with Graham. Do you guys think Graham will be the only one retained?

Agree with this. I posted in his thread...have a friend who I graduated high school with whose daughter cheers at Ridgeland. She told me that he is announcing on his birthday which is in a week or so...sounded like it would be Bama or Ohio State.

Well said! I felt the same way. I was disappointed and enraged that we couldn't hire a big name. After I had the whole day to calm down and think about things, and then hear about his Cincy players clapping for him and hear some of his presser, I started to change my mind. He earns respect...his Cincy players respected him and were happy that he was advancing his career. He is a polar opposite of Dooley...Dooley commanded it, but never did anything to earn it. I'll tell you guys something he did today at the team meeting (I hope MzT doesn't mind me sharing this) and he was only with them for a very short time...he went up to Kenneth Bynum, Latroy Lewis, and Croomster and hugged them. He recruited them and remembered them. We need a players' coach for this team, and that's what we got. These guys will end up running through a brick wall for Coach Jones. Let's all hope this is the guy that will lead our once proud program back to elite status.

I truly believe this... it was almost like he expected them to give respect because of his name.

And that's awesome about hugging the players... I was the same way this morning, but the combination of how he gets involved with the players(from videos and stories I've heard from UC, 180 from Dooley), completely honest with them(this will bring tons of respect, 180 from Dooley), embracing former players(again, 180 from Dooley), and social media competent(annnd again, 180 from Dooley)... I'm coming around.

No worries, I was right there with you (although not quite as outspoken) I lurked my fair share in the Gruden forum because I wanted to believe...

However, after listening to CBJ's press conference (which is planned and can include puffery) I really was sold on all that he said. Allowing access back to former players was HUGE. Everyone knew Dooley really rubbed some former Vols the wrong way with his mandatory notification if a former player were to visit.

Also, you can't argue with some of the people CBJ has been mentored by. Say what you want, but Rich Rod in 2005-2006 had one of the most explosive offenses that the NCAA has ever seen. Butch was on that staff. Brian Kelly has proven that he is an established coaching commodity. Mike DeBord has certainly had a lot of experience in both the NFL and NCAA.

Throw in the fact that CBJ has won 4 conference titles in 6 years, it is all just icing on the cake. Now, I am excited to see who his coaching staff is before I will run through a wall for the guy. But for right now, I certainly can't say that I am not happy with the hire.

???

Has anything about my posting history inclined you towards the fact that I would criticize him for not doing that??

You can't fight a war without any soldiers...but if he hit the recruiting trail I would be fine with it. I just understand him trying to assemble his staff first.

It is okay. The guy did not know what the word prudent meant.

Really looking forward to seeing who all Butch brings in on staff after he said we'll have the best staff in the nation. Could end up with some pleasant surprises giving him at least 3 mil to work with. I bet he probably didn't have half that at UC for assistants.

Also very encouraging to hear how well he relates to players & people in general. I noticed Hart pointed that out. I've got a feeling Butch will be liked quite a bit more than Dooley by players, parents, hs coaches, AD employees ect lol.

With 3 mil as a minimum, I am excited to see who he can attract as assistants.

Pittman will be interesting...Mahoney has been w/ Jones since Central Michigan.

You give up an amazing recruiter in the Carolinas if you ditch Pittman. I seriously doubt Mahoney has the connections we need.

"Coach Jones has spent the evening in the complex reviewing his staff and calling recruits. He called Jason Carr out of Memphis and Carr was happy to talk to the new top Vol.

"Yeah he called me earlier and we just talked about building a relationship and talk about this recruiting thing. It was good. I just told him congratulations on being the new head coach."

"I saw the press conference here on local television and I thought it went well and he seemed like a good coach. But, I'm going to wait and see what he's like when I meet with him in person and sit down with him and talk to him on my official visit."

He also spoke with Austin Sanders who was attending a banquet.

"I missed his call the first time. He told me he plans on seeing me real soon. I liked him and he had a lot of energy. He wants me to come up next weekend."

We will keep you updated on anyone else he talks with."

Much appreciated on the updates RS. :hi:

"Austin posted this earlier. I think we will have a better idea on some finalized stuff with his staff tomorrow. I don't think that the entire staff will be in place tomorrow. But I think we will have more of a clear identity.

Jones has met with all the current staff and he is watching tape of each units play and go from there. I expect Graham will be retained, but I don't have that from Jay or coach Jones at this point. But Jones made it clear he wanted a staff with a Tennessee feel to it.

I also believe there is a chance that Sam Pittman is retained.

Tee is a possibility but I don't think Jones has made that decision yet.

We are continue to chase on things with his staff as Jones continues to work through his options tonight and will continue to do so tomorrow."
