Same play, same throw, different result yesterday. JJ runs double move from the slot. UAB did a better job of undercutting the route and getting there.

They had a game plan to beat MSST. It worked.
They had a game plan to beat Bama. It worked, but the refs worked better.
They had a game plan to beat SC. It worked.
They had a game plan to beat UAB. It worked.

They will have have plans for each of the three remaining games. The last 4 games suggest strongly they will work. Fret less and enjoy the ride.
Try to enjoy ^^^this. This is spot on.

Funny, I was perusing the Texas message boards, Surlyhorns.com, and they also have a separate board for football and for recruiting. The football forum is almost totally in full "Fire Tom Herman Now!!!!" mode, and while the recruiting forum posters have their concerns about recent events and the direction of the program, they all refer to the football forum posters as a bunch of crazies and overreactionaries.

He under-threw it yesterday. I don't really fault the decision making, just didn't get enough behind it.

For those of you old enough to remember, this is why you don't play JT Shrout against UAB.

You expect CJP to start him next year even though he benched him this year for a true FR. Then after he was hurt, he started a WR and a RSFR he doesn't trust because of how he practices???
Yes he will. That's coach Pruitt's m-o so far. You may be let down if you expect otherwise.

What was your prediction for the UAB game?
Thought we'd win the game by a couple scores but I did think it was going to be tougher than it was. Outside of Arkansas I just don't think we're in a place yet as a program to where we can just chalk up butt kickings against anyone in this league before the fact.

I think our coaches take each week differently and have a plan to win that specific game and what's the best way to do that. Pruitt learned this lesson after the GA State game. The defense is now ahead of the offense and they are managing the O with care to get W's. They're going to shut down UK's running game next week and create multiple turnovers and good field position for the offense. It'll look a lot like the USC game. Hopefully Maurer is ready to go this week and stays healthy the entire game. If he does, I expect to see many explosive plays downfield and another big win.

UAB post game random thoughts....

  • Won't have much because honestly, last night wasn't much of a memorable game... whole thing just felt meh.
  • Hot take: Bryce Thompson is a ball hawk. Actually... I just looked on UTSports.com and noticed he last night was his only three int's of the year. For whatever reason, I thought he had 1-2 others this year. But at any rate, with his coverage and with how effective he is blitzing... he's establishing himself as one of our best players.
  • Darrell Taylor has been more consistent the past few weeks. Would be nice to see him notch another 4 sacks just to get to double digits for the year. Had one last night and looked real close to at least two others.
  • When DT does leave, I think Kivon Bennett might be a guy who can step up and alleviate some of our pass rush woes. I don't how good he'll ultimately be, but I do know that he continues to flash.
  • Same for Middleton ..... for all the talk of him being soft and, well, even I saying earlier this season that I wished we didn't take him in the class because he was a non-factor.... he really seems to have embraced being a defensive lineman. I mean, when you look at his stats on the UTsports website, they're pretty mediocre.. but sometimes stats don't tell the whole story. All I know is that he seems to be in the frame a lot whenever a TFL or sack is made.
  • I wasn't there obviously, and I know they didn't have the best film crew/equipment (and the announcers were trash) so i don't know how the atmosphere at the game actually was - but I know it (at least to me) felt lifeless watching it on TV. They'd pan to the crowd a lot on UAB third downs and people wouldn't even be making noise. A lot of people looked bored. I wonder if someone who was at the game would agree with that.
  • You know you're hosting a big time TE target when you're throwing the ball to Andrew Craig and Jacob Warren. I don't think we did a very good job showcasing the TE position for Washington. I think the VQ podcast said of our 13 completions, 6 went to the TE's.
  • I don't think JG should've played as much as he did last night. I don't think it was particularly fair to him, being six days off of surgery, in a cold weather game. Once we took the double digit lead and the UAB offense showed itself to be a s lifeless as it was, I think we should've stuck with Shrout. JMO.
  • OL looked like trash for the first time in a long time.
  • Eric Gray might've hit the proverbail freshman wall - which is kind of weird considering he hasn't played much. All I know is vs BYU and GA State, while he might not have picked up gaudy stats, he at least flashed elite quickness and change of direction skills.
  • I'm as bored writing this as I was watching the game.

We’ve actually been impressive against run heavy teams dating back to last season...save the beginning of this season. What we were useless against were high efficiency passers paired with clever route runners. That’s the key to the sudden resurgence. Got the push up front and exceedingly improved safety play with Warrior remembering why he was a top recruit and McCullough adding some football smartitudabilityisnaciousness. Better running games than Kentucky’s has been muted.

Think we'll play multiple QBs the rest of the season. Not force anyone to carry the load, protect Maurer from taking too many hits, take some of the pressure off of JG, continue to get reps for Shrout and use the wildcat when we need JJ to be JJ. QB by committee-- that's the path to a bowl. It's not what anyone expected, but practical in our situation.
I'm not sure I agree with that strategy. Surely they wouldn't be of that line of thinking going into next year, because as it stands right now all three could return. To me if they think Maurer is the guy he needs to be out there full time starting next Saturday night. If all three are healthy this carousel they're on doesn't make sense IMO. Pick a guy and stick with him.
