If fulmer coaches OL and recruits... it would work. Bc i know he would get a way better staff than what we have now.
Not going to get into hypotheticals because it makes people upset, but I would imagine Bo Hardegree and Kevin Steele would be added to the staff immediately.

All told, it would be interesting to see how he’d do it. Is the sales pitch to Randy Boyd that he can come in and coach over top of this current staff? Or is the idea to clean house totally? Because I don’t know how the money people would get behind something like that fiscally.

Fulmer fell off,
We needed a change but went in the wrong direction to start
Him coaching again would do nothing but keep us from trying to move up the pecking order
I love fulmer but we can’t keep going backwards

Honestly just think Fulmer made a bad hire in Dave Clawson, his style did not fit our personal who was on the team..but people were stressing a new flavor in the offense and he completely went away from what he knew and it cost him his job.

Fulmer really needs to say publicly that his coaching career is over

These stories need to be squashed
This is why it’s so important to beat the teams you’re supposed to beat. Because otherwise speculation starts.

We desperately need a big win to quiet everything down but this part of the schedule likely doesn’t allow for it.

“Their depth, their physicality,” Smart said. “They were thinner at some positions last year. They've got more guys. They're rolling and playing more guys. They're playing really hard and they play really physical. You look at the games they've played this year, they've had some self-inflicted wounds. Otherwise, they're winning or in those games. And you know the way they're coaching and the way they're demanding, they've got a good staff, they're going to push these kids, and they're getting them better.

“They've had a whole week to get better and improve, and I think it shows on tape when you watch them how hard they play, that they're on the brink of something special, and you can tell these guys are playing hard, and they're playing with a lot of young guys. There's a lot of guys out there that were recruited last year in a lot of situations.”

I would settle for 5-7, 10-4, 9-4, 5-6, 10-3, 10-3, 8-5, 11-2, 8-4, 9-3 over the last 10 years compared to what we have gotten the last 10 years. Whenever people ask when will UT be back, they are referring to what we were under him.

You mean back when we were competing for the SEC every other year? Yeah, I'd settle for that. People are insane if they think the current imbalance that Bama has lived with is normal for any program -- even elite programs. And tbh, Fulmer would have played in a couple more national championships had the playoffs been around and likely won at least one of them. People like to claim that the SEC was a weak conference back then but that's not true - Tennessee, Arkansas, and Florida were all contenders the year they won and our OOC scheduled was unmatched by anyone.

His bane was Florida but really I suppose that was more Chavis' Bane than anyone else's and at the time (Spurrier to Meyer) Florida was the national laboratory for offensive innovation and defenses in general simply hadn't caught up.

I think we should have a long and in-depth conversation about Fulmer's coaching prowess, and really dig into past performance and future potential. It's just a topic that really hasn't gotten much attention here.
Mental note of that. But I think everyone is strained enough for a little minute here. 🤣

Either way, I’m here for it.

People were tired of the grind it out pro-style football we were running. They wanted the flashy offenses that Florida had under Spurrier and Meyer and Fulmer made the mistake of getting too far away from his bread and butter in an effort to show he could change. He should've made a smaller course correction but one still in that direction and let the fans complain about it but that's easy to see in hindsight, especially now that defenses are speedier and more capable of dealing with high octane offenses. Back then, DCs were still trying to figure out how to slow those offenses down.

I also think Clawson takes too damn long to implement his system. Even if things had been perfect when he was hired it would've taken him years to really run it well. I think he's a good mind but only a so-so teacher and that his players don't always understand what he's attempting to transmit to them.

If you could go back and change things would you rather give Fulmer one more year to try and turn things around or would you rather have Kiffin's lone season here?

After 10 years?
An 8-10 win coach gives you a 75% winning percentage. Anyone should want that from a coach. Bama has ruined what people think a successful program is. Fulmer had a 75% winning percentage and I sure as hell would love those times back.

It's interesting to watch/listen to Pruitt's press conference, then listen to Smart's.

I don't want to spend that much time listening to them right now but what do you think is different between them? The first minute or so for both sounded like they were being forced to attend a funeral. If Pruitt's go the way his anti-energy pressers have gone so far this year I expect his to get worse.

Fulmer 1000%.

We’ve always underestimated how special of a coach he was. He took this program to heights not seen before (I’m excluding years before integration) and especially not seen since.

Coaches are weird. Smart is wearing a sweatshirt over a collared shirt, and it's 94 in Athens today. Pruitt is wearing long sleeves, too. I said a couple of weeks ago that my wife started noticing coaches wearing long sleeves on the sidelines in places where it's 80+ degrees. One NFL assistant was wearing a sweatsuit.

Firing Fulmer was without a question the biggest mistake of Hamilton's tenure as AD.

2007 Fulmer is given an extension.

2008 ya fire him? Lost at UCLA by 3 in OT, at Auburn by 2, at Georgia by 12, at USC by 21, and then Wyoming by 6 THE WEEK AFTER BEING FIRED ON NOVEMBER 2ND (it was over a decade ago, you correction eager douchenozzles)

Had also lost Cutcliffe, Matt Luke, Kurt Roper & Trooper Taylor before the start of 2008. So it wasn't just that Fulmer had a new OC coach, he had an entirely new offensive staff. An absolutely awful season offensively, 17.3 PPG with a defense that was only giving up 16.8 a game.

He was fired the week before the Wyoming game. That contributed to the loss.

Lost to Wyoming after being fired.
