Only real disagreement with that projection is Gooden starting at nose. See Emerson beginning those games and only getting better. Gooden might be more depth at DT with Garland and Simmons logging minutes at fire plug.

Yeah, hard to come back from an injury that takes an entire year away and with missing spring I don't know that Gooden starts unless someone is hurt.

I also don't know if I agree with their starting WRs. I think Palmer is pretty obvious, but I'm not sure Velus is going to just show up and beat out Brandon Johnson to start. Velus had just 36 catches in his career at USC, I see him more of the KR/PR specialist to replace Calloway with some experience rather than relying on someone else.

Not enough on Velus Jones for me to agree or disagree...at least comparing him to Brandon Johnson. Neither are proven commodities in any aspect. Johnson had stats in a lost season...somebody had to.

Well lost season was also the year JJ was injured so the opportunity was there. I don't disagree, I just give the edge to the guy with the most time in the system/with the coaches in those situations. Unless Velus is just better then I'm sure he could earn the spot. But even then not sure I'd pencil him in as a starter in pre-season depth charts.

Palmer & Gibbs seem to be obvious starters and then I'd probably speculate that Johnson, Keyton, or Tillman has the best shot at that 3rd spot. Would like to see Keyton or Tillman earn it with both having the best size of the WRs returning (each is listed at 6'3"). I like the WR group though, lots of potential....and I think the competition to earn starting spots can help push the group. Plus Tee pulled in some serious speed with the incoming guys.

I'm MOST excited about both sides of the line.

Returned everyone on the defensive LOS and returned most the talent on the OLine plus added Cade Mays...hell yes LET'S RIDE!

Somebody in that RB room should be pushing 1k on the ground behind the OL we'll have, even our 2 deep guys got some talent and quality experience at this point.

This. Missing Spring instantly gives value and priority to those already with chemistry and time in the system. BJ has had as many or more snaps and practice with JG as any WR on the roster. Imo that puts him near the top (at least to start the season).

Top returning receivers:
65 receptions - Palmer
60 (53 from 2017 and on/JG seasons) receptions - Johnson

As for Velus, I think he'll get returner snaps, but idk how many at WR he will get. Jmo, but he hardly did anything at USC (with JTD and Slovis). Don't see him suddenly taking off with JG. It's not all about him though, but also the competition. We heard good things about Gibbs, Keyton and Tillman looked promising last season, and the incoming freshmen look like a set of great prospects.

Yeah, I think the reason Tee brought in Velus was familiarity with him and knowing he could be -the guy- to return kicks, if he wins a starting job at WR then that's just icing on the cake. He's also a grad transfer so pretty low risk, since he's only here for a season.

Only KNOWN quantity back then. Closest thing to a NT on the roster the previous season. Of course that was with Emerson recovering from a devastating high school injury. Facts changed last season. Emerson isn’t some emergency standby...he outperformed Gooden comparing their two seasons and Garland wasn’t far off. Could see Gooden get NFL consideration at DT...even backing up Solomon.
I thought the same of Garland. He improved ALOT last yr.
