I have no idea but if he wanted Jon Gruden as the coach at Tennessee, he would be the coach at Tenenssee. If Gruden's agent would come off some of the points AND Gruden is truly interested in coaching in college and at Tenenssee, I'm real sure Haslam would be on board that. That is still possible if they would alter demands. Personally, I think LaMonte AND Gruden had no interest in coaching here and were only playing the game they have played elsewhere to keep Gruden's name out there.

just my opinion, of course. -LWS

LWS from cliff notes thread. Again, I think he's right. Gruden doesn't truly want to be here. Sounds like if he did, he'd make this work on his side. Whenever I truly have wanted something, I make it work. I don't make outrageous demands that have no chance of being accepted.

Folks who still think Gruden is coming are just not facing the facts. And blaming Hart makes no sense.

But that's Tennessee. Our next coach will now face a divided fan base. The OGs will revert to being Negavols and the rest of us that kept level heads will have be forced to listen to their moaning...

el oh el.

I like Strong but in Franklin's second year at a worse program in a better conference he had a more successful season than Strong's second year. He also recruits just as well if not better. If you think Fedora is the answer then Idk what to tell you. Franklin>>>>>Fedora.

Did I ever say fedora was the answer? Strong is the best candidate left on our board hands down..fedora should be second.

I don't get the love affair with Franklin. Solid coach but who has he beaten that he wasn't supposed to?

I can't wait till we are no longer worried about beating someone he/we aren't supposed to. I'm ready to get back to being that team that's supposed to win every game.

I don't hate him..he does a fine job getting his players motivated and playing above their talent level.

I just don't want him at UT. Not now, not ever.

Vanderbilt is going to win 9 games. That's the love affair. Who has Fedora or Strong beaten that they weren't supposed to? (btw I like Strong, not a knock just saying) I just can't stand the thought of Fedora being the best UT can do.

Outlier...look up the definition...87-82 the rest if the way...

I'm really surprised someone as knowledgable as you is being so obtuse about this

I'm aware of the term.

He also won his division 5 times in 11 years. If he's not elite, he is at the top of the next tier.

Good deal...and I don't mean to insult your intelligence...I should have worded the outlier thing differently...

If it were your call and you could offer everything that Gruden is asking for (salary, staff salary, control) would you do it? Do you think he is unquestionably worth more money than Saban?

No problem.

In short, yes.

I know the question wasn't directed at me, but I would overpay Gruden rather than hire someone like Fedora or Golden. What former NFL head coach has come back to college and not had success? Mora Jr, Kiffin(recruits well at least), Saban, Carroll. And Gruden was by far the best NFL coach of them.

Fedora is a very good coach. He would be a great hire IMO.

Sherman was also more successful than most of those coaches in the NFL with 3 division championships and 4 playoff appearances.

Fedora is really good at interacting with the fans which I think UT would like from a PR standpoint. He's a good coach but I'm leary of the string of coaches he's dragging along with him. Honestly I prefer Strong. I think there are so many recruits that would love to play for him but can't see themselves playing at Louisville. I think at UT with our facilities and his skills/work ethic he'd kill it out on the recruiting trail. JMO.
