I know that things can be cyclical in sports. I wasn't born yesterday. All I'm going to say is that there are lessons that can be learned from the Saban/Bama model. These lessons can be applied now and in the future. Spend it to make it.

As skeeter has previously stated, the Saban-Bama model is not easily replicated. You don't have to implement that model to be successful. It most definitely isn't the only model for success; moreover, it's nearly impossible to implement that model at UT. There are different academic standards. There are different powers in play. Bama and Saban do not have to deal with a chancellor like Cheek.

Gruden will be our next head coach. Don't worry about today's erroneous and unprofessional reports.

I believe that there are several high profile coaches that would need to be approached a la Saban. They should think outside the box. If that didn't get the results I wanted I would get an ex NFL coach or high profile coordinator for the job.

skeeter quoted the Rucker post in the Gruden cliff notes thread and highted this part...

Gruden’s wife has preferred UT (her alma mater and home region) and has asked her husband to find a way to make it happen.

and said...

"I have actually heard this from someone that i trust."

tell us more, skeeter!

No, I didn't ignore your reasons. I directly addressed those reasons. Hart and the AD have no responsibility or requirement to address the fans or recruits regarding the coaching search. He's not trying to please the fans, at the end of the day. He is making a decision based on what will give UT a winning program. That might not mean giving the fans, boosters, and the media the name they want.

Yes, disappointing every recruit considering UT is exactly what every good AD would do. It's great for ticket sales too when the fanbase thinks they've been delivered a sub par coach. Excellent point.

Saban pretty much has complete control. When Dooley found out a player was having academic issues, it was usually to late. the coaches at Tennessee are kept out of the loop when it comes to tutoring and things like that. Susan Martin needs to go away, she hates football and seems like she hates most athletes in general. Also at other sec schools athletes get to take some classes that are no longer available for our athletes, im not going to spell that out any further. Hart is trying to get the issues fixed and some big time boosters are helping him too, but it will take some time.

1. Coaches should NEVER be surprised by bad grades. It should never be too late. That's an issue the Thornton Center needs to address, if true.

2. Coaches should get reports about tutor sessions that went poorly on a daily basis. This is common procedure nationwide. Communication is key for football academics.

3. I'm guessing the classes you refer to are at places such as Western Oklahoma State. Those are going to the wayside at many schools. The NCAA is going to crack down on this issue soon, so many of the higher ups in athletics academics and compliance are stopping the use of these now.

According to whom? Hyams? Riiiight...

Hyams is an idiot 99% of the time. This is part of the 1% that he isn't b/c Hubbs backed it up 100%. What do you think about Hubbs stating that Gruden declined the meeting according to his sources?

Whoever the coach is I'd like to see a behind the scenes/all access type series of videos. I've been watching different teams on YouTube and it's pretty sweet to see how practices are ran and what goes on in meetings and stuff.

Again, I am saving this. I like what you bring to the board, but this further proves you are not in the know. If you are so confident when will it be announced??

Hubbs has been in the dark this entire process.

Auburn has spoken with Louisville coach Charlie Strong in a phone conversation that may or may not precede a face-to-face interview. Louisville plays at Rutgers on Wednesday night for the Big East title.

This rumor isn't localized to message board hounds. EVERY UT fan and recruit has heard the rumor and the confidence in its truth that so many people have. The AD has to recognize that and put it to rest if it's not a done deal if he doesn't want to look incompetent and let false hopes balloon throughout the fanbase.

On the other hand perhaps Hart doesn't want to appear incompetent by addressing rumors that basically started on a message board. In his PC he stated how he would search, what he was searching for, and would announce the hire when it was made. Gruden rumors have been going around for a couple of years but this crazy fan base took it to a new level. At this point the young and restless are feeding each other so much BS about Gruden I think it would serve them right if Gruden flat out announces that he will not coach at UT just because of the mob mentality.

Good ADs have done it forever, deny the possibility of the one everyone wants. If you hope for something you think is a possibility long enough, you eventually expect it. Hart would have been smart to shut down the rumors early. If Gruden ended up getting hired anyway, no one would care. Lots of people will care if they've thought for weeks that Gruden was possible but didn't happen. Quick way to lose recruits, ticket sales, etc...

Anyone with a brain knows that isn't true. That would be illegal in so many ways. UT cannot offer a stake in an NFL team because UT cannot and does not own a stake in an NFL team. That news station should be shut down. Typical Memphis garbage.

I didn't believe it at all. But why would they be able to report that? Especially now that Gruden himself has come out and said there is no offer.
