No quick answer but I'll try to keep it short...

CDD's interest in the 3-4 began before Tennessee. Hiring DCSS was his opportunity.

Expectation of the 3-4 base "D"? Three dn linemen, allowing for another LB, get more athletes and more speed on the field, attempt to disrupt and confuse the offense by bringing pressure, but try to keep the defense behind the pressure reasonably safe and make where the pressure is coming from unpredictable.

We knew that the transition would be difficult. Tennessee's biggest issues have been poor execution---mental mistakes and alignment errors.

Let's look at UGA, when Grantham installed the 3-4 @ UGA in '10 the "D" gave up an avg og 30+ pts/gm in five of their first eight SEC gms. In '11 UGA limited thirteen of nineteen opps to 20pts or less/gm. '12 has shown even more improvement---before Tennessee and USCe UGA avg 16.5pts/gm.

Here's hoping our high-octane "O" produce enough while we overcome the "D"'s growing pains.

Regarding DR and CC, you always hate to lose talent, but in DR's and CC'S case it was for the best.

Thanks :hi: I totally agree that the CC and DR dismissals were for the best and not finding fault in cdd at all. Just thinking that back in the spring and discussions about bringing in CSS for the 3-4 transition he had both those guys to help give him confidence that his O will score a lot of pts. Obviously losing DR so late in the summer hurts too.

I just see a lot of people wondering why he did the transition right now. As an outsider looking in I'm trying to figure it out myself. Coaches don't just do things to do it and they think it through throughly. He has wanted to do it all along and I feel he saw this yr was the best window of opportunity to do so. Unfortunately the expected "high octane" O we were suppose to have hasn't been "high octane" since NCST. don't get me wrong I'm fully aware of how our current #s look compared to past #s, but honestly they should be a lot higher. We all expected that and we all can see them capable of it too.

Again this is all IMHO as an outsider looking in...

Let's go Dooley's UT Vols!!!! Buck Fama!!

I don't mind not having the "high octane" O with as bad as our D is keep them off the field as much as possible is good in my mind.

Florida looks like they may be the best team in the country. It's interesting to think back to Florida week and how we all thought we'd win by 2+ TDs. Not to mention thinking that this years schedule would be considerably easier than last years, haha.

Another reason to recognize every season is different. Projecting wins years out is futile.

A bunch of aubs want to apologize to the guy at airport who booed Chizik when he arrived in Auburn. The guy was clairvoyant. Chizik is now 6-25 without Malzahn.

They should probably also apologize to Charles Barkley. The Round Mound of Rebound spoke out against CGC also.

1. Hunter's Hands: I said last week that Hunter needed to stop dropping key balls. Some disagreed and said it was ridiculous, dropping the "NFL ready" line and "McShay's Big Board." His drop at the end of the first half probably cost us 7 points and would have sent us in down 6. But it did not cost us this game.

2. 3rd Down Play calling: It was bad tonight... it was real bad. Long throws on 3rd and short. Short throws on 3rd and long. There is so much more, but it hurts to think about it.

3. Secondary: The play was atrocious tonight. Three bama players averaged over 20 yards per catch. I do not think there was a single pass break up. Our cats were falling down, not finding the ball, blowing coverages. Anyway you could blow a pass play, we did it often. We were thrilled to have two DB coaches this year and said goodbye to "the baseball coach". Same story, new characters.

4. Bray: IT is becoming a tired analysis, but... a. he does not handle pressure well. A little pressure, or perceived pressure, and he will chuck it, force it, or throw it away.
b. he does not appear to be a "cerebral" QB. Natural giftedness will get you so far... than, you will be exposed when it comes to recognizing the defense and being able to improvise.
c. he is not a high round NFL draft pick this year. I don't care what he does against the final 4 teams.

5. Offensive Line:
Hard fought game against a talented Bama team. Marlin Lane ran hard, but was limited in carries, with the Wildcat coming into play often.

6. Sentimore: Played like an animal. Got great penetration often, but could rarely get rewarded for his efforts with the big play. Hat's off. :hi:

7. Playmakers: We did not find ours often enough.
a. CP got 2 carries (-6 yds) and the big catch (25 yd). He killed them in the return game. Bray did target him quite a bit, but couldn't get it to him.
b. Hunter, (4 catches, 70 yards) had to steal one from ZRO, or he would have had a 3 catch, 26 yard performance.
c. ZRO, (ZRO catches for ZRO yd.) Say what you want, we need ZRO to step up to take pressure off of JH11 and CP84.
d. Rivera 1 catch, 43 yards. If I am an offensive coordinator, he is getting 5 touches a game minimum.

8. Kicking Game: Credit where it is due. I have raked Palardy over the coals. 2-2 fg, 1-1 xp, 5 punts for 48.2 yd average. We used to take those stats for granted at Tennessee. Now, we take note. Well done #1.

9. Clock Management:
A lot of people are upset with not using the timeouts before half-time, and I think it is a valid point. If JH!! catches the bomb. We call the TO and have some time to get 3-4 shots in the endzone. I believe after the drop, the coaches did not expect to be so fortunate to catch bama sleeping again, and called it for the half. You can agree or disagree. Could they have called timeouts before the drop, yes, but their philosophy there seemed to be, get the chunk of yardage, and work from there. It didn't work.

10. Verdict: I was hoping the coaching staff would prove something tonight, rewarding the faith that some of us still had. They did not. Sure, Bama was gonna win this game, and the team fought hard, but the breakdowns... the freaking breakdowns... sigh.

I just can't help but think that this is just not Tennessee football. I grew up watching a team that wanted to ram it down your throat and play great defense with a solid kicking game. We have become a finesse team on offense and play Big 12 Defense. I just hate watching it.

The offense needed to show up to win. Not having Neal hurt. I have no answers re: coaching conundrum. I have some notion that Dooley should get another year, but I am not sure he holds on.

I'm numb. Not sure I can take any more.

Really pleased with the O line and run game...come a long way since the beginning of the season. D-line got more pressure. That's about all the positives I can come up with.

When the talent level has improved as much as it has in three years, and the results are the same (bad), there's just not a lot else to point at other than coaching.
