The difference is that it was Heupel's first year and all the QBs were new to him and his system in 2021. Milton just happened to be a guy Heupel knew and recruited out of high school. Heupel's been working with Merk for over a year now and there could be a level of comfort there for Heupel that makes him go with Merk if the competition is close. I don’t think how he handled things in 2021 is a good indicator of how things will go now since we're talking about two very different scenarios in a lot if ways.Hubbs somewhat pedeling the idea that the QB competition might be more interesting than we think. Definitely feels like Aguilar has the plot armor at the moment.
Thinking back to 2021, it never really felt like Hendon was going to get a real chance to win the job once they went out and got Joe Milton. Feels like that now. I would be shocked if it is anybody but Aguilar at the end of camp.
I think people are sleeping on Merk, I genuinely think it’s 50/50 whether it’s merk or Aguilar who startsHubbs somewhat pedeling the idea that the QB competition might be more interesting than we think. Definitely feels like Aguilar has the plot armor at the moment.
