Recruiting Football Talk VIII

That would be my list.

I think you could mix Dobbs in for Clausen or Hooker and I wouldn't necessarily argue.
I have Dobbs more underrated than most Vol fans, because during his tenre here, I felt he was a very below average passer.

Hooker is in another league to me entirely. Clausen won so much and was so clutch. I'd maybe even put Ainge ahead of Dobbs in some ways.

Just rub a wet rag on it.
When my older son was in elementary school, he asked me if his buddy could come over to play. He went on to tell me that if I said it was ok, he had already warned his friend not to wear his alabama shirt because I would set him on fire. 🤣

*that kid grew up to be a TN fan. GBO

I wouldn't concern myself too much. The staff loves Farooq and Beasley at Safety and sounds like they're comfortable with them getting playing time this year. Both underclassmen. I think Tim Merrit is being reported as a safety and was a nice recruiting win.
Well, when I say “concerned”, I don’t mean I’m fretting over it like some on here. Just the lack of numbers gave me pause. I think we will be fine, especially the next couple years, but I could see us having to go to the portal at that position.

Either way, i feel like our coaches have a plan and they are executing it so I’m gonna ride with them til they give me a reason not to

The TCU QB himself confirmed it and there are several quotes from him in this article. I am not sure why he would lie about it.
Article

Here is the video of him addressing it:

We tried to entice multiple power 4 starters to enter the transfer portal because of the void Nico left. The main two were Altmeyer and Hoover. We failed, so we took the next best thing out there which was JA. There is no way that we were comfortable with our QB room when we were going after those guys nor should we have been.

Maybe but he had many reasons to lie. No different than a coach at the end of the year saying he is in running for open job.

Come on admit it - you are fretting aren’t you? Lol

Sure man you are right. We were totally comfortable rolling with two QBs with no in-game experience. Despite the substantial evidence that we went after multiple starting power 4 QBs, that was all a lie and CJH was just playing 4D chess all along. That is exactly what happened.

Hard to believe Heupel is about to start year five. We got really, really damn lucky with the DW + Heup combo. I mean, extremely lucky. For every DW out there, there are 10 Bahama Johns. And I don't think Heup has come close to hitting his ceiling here. He still hasn't gotten that elite first-round pick QB who's better than Hendo, but he will eventually.

They will never get what they want, an elite top 5 HS class and top ranked portal acquisitions every year....either because we just don't have the money to pull the high number of elite players in one class that it would take to get us into that echelon, or because we do have money but choose to spread it all over the AD and not just on football.

Whatever the reason, we are obviously not going to ever be among the super aggressive in spending money...if they can't get the guy for what they feel he is worth...then so be it...I am fine with that approach

I really like Heupel, he has given me what I really wanted and asked for after the 15 years of hell we endured...a truly competitive program. He has already proven he can win with whatever he has to work with, he loves it here and appreciates it appropriately.

I understand he is going to have down years along with the great years and I am fine with that...I believe he will keep us competitive.

I love Josh Heupel for what he has already done for Tennessee...and I HATE the Idiot Margin FOOLS that infest VolNation for every stupid bitch and moan criticism they level at him...Tony and Rick Barnes.

We have great men and women leading our programs...and thousands of idiots bitching about them.

I am on the offensive in taking on over the top posters, but thankfully I don’t think we have thousands of offenders on the boards, BUT I don’t spend much time anywhere other than VN so I could be wrong. It is just we have a few handfuls that are prolific on their keyboards.

He's coming next year
