Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Greatest show I ever saw, out of the many upon many, was My Morning Jacket at Bonnaroo in 2008...and, it was flooding, absolutely pouring down. They played for 4 hours in it; and 10's of thousands got to witness everything a legendary gig is made of.
Man that sounds amazing. Love MMJ. Reminds me of seeing Cage The Elephant in the pouring rain as they played Cigarette Daydreams.

Recruiting needs to start picking up. Bring on the 4* and 5* kids. Maybe even a few 6* ones. I would hate to start firing folks this early in the process.
It where it all begins.

Saban’s super power— 17 consecutive top-5 recruiting classes, signing 75 5-star players and 282 4-star players in those recruiting classes.

June 15, 2025: Gates will open, but you have to decide definitively whether to go through them or not. They are doors that can change your life as you depart from your accepted normal. You will be able to move forward in surprising ways by unexpected avenues. Do not be afraid to make changes that have the potential of great improvement. Psalm 118:19 Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will go through them, and I will praise the Lord.

Man, used to be nothing better than getting the 'Football Time in Tennessee' magazine, when you could find them. $9.95 of rosters, Signing Class breakdowns. You know the crap we all get for free now.

Would sit there and try to memorize that stuff when not in class, or playing CFB 2004.

Ask me if I remember anything from all that?

Jon Crompton was a 4 star, Josh Briscoe a 3 star. Josh McNeil a 4 Star, and Chris Scott a 4 Star. We whiffed on Mario Fannin, btw. Who went on to do nothing. The linebacker Chris ? who had the greatest tape in history of tape, went to UTC. And did nothing.

There was an interior DL that was a 3 star, that played for Arizona. JT Mapuuu was a 5 star, as was Albert Toeaina and Jesse MaheLOOHNAaaaaaa!

Damn those were the days. Some of my all time fave Vols. Mahelona was an absolute terror. I remember Mahelona's helmet never fit, he was all time adjusting it.

That was right around the time of 'smurf patrol', when our HB's were DB's, and DB's were linebackers, and DE were DL. Saban came into prominence by recruiting power players, and went on a run. 🫩

And now my BVS is flaring.
I thought about Jesse Mahelona a few weeks ago while vacationing in Hawaii. I met him and Coach Chavis at a golf tournament in Franklin, TN rt after he graduated. He was such a polite young man- soft spoken. He passed away at such a young age.
