Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Good luck with that. Cleveland still has no QB...
Both the Giants and Browns had 1,200 yd receivers even with subpar qb play. Hyatt was the 9th leading receiver for the Giants while Tillman was the 5th leading the ceiver for the Browns. Its not likely to happen with either one but I wish it would.

any of yall like drag racing (it's cars, @Weezer )? June 7 at Knoxville Dragway, SEGA (Southeastern Gassers Association). I have a buddy, Alan Platt, that races with them. He drives the "Georgia Shaker III". Went last year and had a good time. It's only like $15 to get in and everyone can go into the pits. You can even go down and stand at the start, just a couple feet from the burnouts if you want.

These are mostly small-time racers, but with really built cars. Most of them have regular jobs and build their cars & race when they're off.

What a stupid comment. Yeti's dress in shag, not drag.

What do yall think the pitching looks like this weekend? I personally am thinking theyplay arvidson and russell friday, Doyle Saturday and Phillips sunday, with teagan being the 2nd starting pitcher if it’s a double header

At some point in sales, you take all that knowledge and you're compensated for it.

Id ask several questions, like what's the territory? Do they claw back/chsrgeback?

Do you get windfalled/capped? How long did it take those folks to earn $200?

If a sales job paid everyone $200K then more people would be doing it, think real estate.

Device reps make that, but there are 5 for every 1 Doc. Do you get paid when roof installs? I dunno, if ifs truly consultative, and you're painting a blank canvas, id say go for it. If its high pressure hard sales, id walk away.

To me it is risk reward. And fit.

How young is your family? Do you have to do a lot of cold calling? it is exhausting.

I definitely have the experience and have had a sizeable jump in my pay over the last 7-8 years and since some tremendous sales success during Covid.....also, North FL in general is having a boom and pay is increasing along with cost of living.

I've continued to research and have compared to other job offers with different companies for the same work. 150-300k has been what I have seen from the more consultative positions like mine, but I don't have to be involved much after closing the job as they want the sales team focused on bringing in new business. They have a very compartmentalized structure with each team having a job and passing things to the next department after their portion is done.

I've accepted the position and start tomorrow so nothing else now but to learn my products, company processes and adapt my style to what works in this industry.......as well as take the top guys to lunch and pick their brains. I'll either be loving the job/pay in 4-6 months or will be identifying and accepting a different position and company. Job market is on fire here.

Glad you brought this back up.

And, congratulations on your new position.

There is a local company now advertising drones to do estimates. Just a thought, outside of usual BNI and Chamber events you may try to get in with a drone photographer, one that specializes in insurance and real estate work? Its a fairly lucrative and specialized gig.

Another idea is find commercial real estate folks whom you can lead or send referrals.

In my business I give more than I receive. People are actually stunned when I tell them 'its just the right thing to do,' to be honest, have integrity, and to send business with no questions asked.

Doesn't seem high pressure, my kids are in teens and job is Monday- Friday, 8-5 normal hours for the most part unless something comes up or there's a storm. Territory is within a few hours of Jax so quite large overall. Minor amount of door knocking/leaving door hangers around homes we have sold projects to, majority is insurance claims so sales cycle can be 4-6 months. Nothing for me to lose based on what I have in writing for my offer.

Yeah, the teenage kids say what you got to lose? Id go crush it.

You may be right but TV has typically not changed things much going into post season. I think he will go with standard rotation with Arvidson ready to go long if needed.

The WCWS brackets are utterly stupid. 4 top 7 teams, all from the SEC, in 1 bracket. The other has an unranked SEC team playing a 12th ranked Big 12 team along with 2 Big 10 teams ranked 9th and 16th. Such an un-balanced bracket.

I am not a proponent of calling people idiots, but whoever put these brackets together is/are……….

Its because the ranked teams from that side of the bracket got eliminated in the regionals and supers. You cant predict that and they don't reseed the WCWS after Supers (though they probably should)

Thank you and great advice on the drones. Funny, drones were one of the things discussed at my final interview, how they are being used on larger homes, commercial jobs and when surveying storm damage.

We have very similar philosophies on giving referrals. I constantly do it in life and in sales because it's the right thing, builds goodwill and I believe you reap what you sow. My boss in painting sales would blow people off if they weren't a customer or vendor immediately needed.....he would say that I wasted ny time because I would always take the time to help a peer gain business and help a customer get a reliable, honest service provider. Doing the right thing is its own reward but it's funny how often it leads to unforseen benefits, usually with uncanny timing.

That's probably why the former boss's sales and reviews were poor at the time of my hiring and tanked again when we parted ways. I built very lucrative relationships for his company with property managers (also applicable to my new gig). He thought he could not bother cultivating his own relationship with them so the two main ones called me the moment he reached out to them. They asked for the truth on why I was no longer with the company, I was honest and both decided they would not do business with his company. I did convince them to offer the subcontractors a chance to accept work from them directly so they wouldn't be out close to a million per year in work.

Relationships and how you treat people are everything in business and life.

We’ve been to Arlington National Cemetery and watched the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown solider. While we were at Arlington there was a funeral being held, listening to taps being played😭
Remember what this day is for🫡
I have seen the changing of the guard at The Tomb of Unknown Solider in Arlington National Cemetery and also at The Kremlin in Moscow. I was in 8th grade in Arlington and I was an adult in Moscow. It was eye opening to realize that respect for fallen soldiers is not limited to just us here in the US. In Moscow many newlyweds will travel to tomb and lay the bridal flowers at the eternal flame as a way of saying thank you to the soldiers who gave their lives to make their marriage possible.
We should never forget to be thankful for those who have gone before us and remember to try to leave a positive legacy for those following us.

Best warm weather Holiday?

My birthday....late July.

The real answer is Labor Day, though. Especially when I lived in Knoxville and Boomsday was going strong.

The long weekend with family/friends/opposite sex, beer/bud, late summer heat eased by being in the water on Ft. Loudon, Norris or any other lake/river/crique or pool, grills with every kind of meat you can pile on your styrofoam plate next to all the other fixins, fishing at dawn (hung over) or at dusk (getting drunk), fireworks.

College football kicking off was part of Labor Day Weekend later on in my childhood. Boomsday drawing 100s of thousands was the cherry on top of the best weekend of the summer.....sometimes we would boat up from Ft. Loudon, sometimes drive downtown and park in the mass of humanity. Best warm weather holiday by far and it's not the same as when I was a kid, never will be again.

This is the answer. Boomsday was incredible. And the start of college football.

Those 4 years in a row of torrential downpours on labor day doomed Boomsday. I went to literally every single one till they canceled it, even when we moved away from Knoxville.
