I'll buy a nice factory certified used car; wife's current car was a couple of years old. I'm fond of a warranty though, particularly given the repair costs of certain German brands. There's a happy middle ground between a luxury car and an unreliable one lol. Like a 5 used Toyota.
If I had one car buying rule, it's never buy German. Holy smoke repair costs are insane. Never again.I'll buy a nice factory certified used car; wife's current car was a couple of years old. I'm fond of a warranty though, particularly given the repair costs of certain German brands.
I generally buy my trucks new, but I travel and time the buy to get them at a significant discount. Upwards of $15k off usually, although the most recent was more like $11k. Trade them very clean with low miles, so the equity is good, especially given the current used car market. The incremental cost isn't as bad as you might think. All my kids are grown so I can spend more on my wife and I than we did when they were at home. One of the few benefits of getting older.
That’s one of those rules to live by:Oh, ok. Yep, those "luxury options" add up quick. I never thought I'd ever spend that kind of money on a vehicle.
I got bamboozled before I ever got in to the car lot. Like I said, that was some dang good cornbread.![]()
Nice fish!Fish are starting to bite around my dock. Should be feeding good soon with it being post spawn.

When Japan or the US builds a car like an M series BMW, I'll be happy to try it. I'm not opposed, I just haven't found anything I like better. But yes, that's why a warranty is a must.If I had one car buying rule, it's never buy German. Holy smoke repair costs are insane. Never again.
Only problem with the constant trading is you always seem to have a car payment. But like you said, if the kids are gone and your career has gone well enough, you can spend extra money on cars. My primary financial goal is to stop working, so every month without a car payment gets me that much closer.
But ya, never ever German.
I was thinking about this the other day. I'd rather have an old 93ish F150/250 4x4 for so many reasons compared to the new stuff. . .Yep.
The real kicker..... her car was around $70000 and didn't come with a spare tire. They got 12 computers shoved in there but no room for a spare tire.
*I can't stand that car.... it's high dollar euro trash. In 35 years I've bought 3 trucks, 2 cars, 2 motorcycles, and 2 ATVs for myself that might total $70k.
Get ya a 98-01 Dodge Ram 1500/2500 or 93-95 Ford. You can get a good deal on Dodge for sure. That generation Ford is starting to go up (if you find a deal, get it). . . Dodge, some less than $5k. Put about $1k into cleaning it up (seats, headliner, massive lope cam, open headers, etc) and drive it til about 500k mi. Then sell it for what you have in it and do it again in 10 years,$70K on a car is too much. Depreciates in value, and will break. Far often earlier than later. Ive always wanted an old 4X4, unfortunately they hold their value.
I see no way of spending $40K on something that will be a money pit.
Fun fact, Americans on average save less than 20% of earnings. Their debt to income ratio is among the highest in World.
Chinese families save over 50%, on average.
Think about that.
Are we entitled?
Did you snag that with a treble hook or something?Fish are starting to bite around my dock. Should be feeding good soon with it being post spawn.

I know. Especially about the going to the grocery store hungry or getting a buggy at Walmart when we just need a couple of things. Both are budget breakers. That’s one of those rules to live by:
Never go into the grocery store hungry
Never go to the car lot when your wife is dead set on something.
You will get a bad deal every time in the name of “making her happy”
There's two sizes of bass:Fish are starting to bite around my dock. Should be feeding good soon with it being post spawn.

I had to kick the habits of my parents, unfortunately after I'd already made unwise financial decisions. Thankfully, I still did it pretty early and paid off my truck several years early. Bought a used car cash for my wife when she needed an upgrade. Sold the boat even though it was paid off.$70K on a car is too much. Depreciates in value, and will break. Far often earlier than later.
