Recruiting Football Talk VIII

You’re right. What I meant to emphasize is how young this team is. You are right to emphasize also how many players we could lose this year. It’s nearing time for these guys to make their statement.

It also shows what a job CTV has on his hands next year. Fortunately, as far as I hear, baseball recruiting machine goes b-r-r-r!
Yea, Baseball is the one sport that the worry circle doesn't gather about recruiting. As long as CTV is the Head Coach we have nothing to worry about on the recruiting trail.

One Senior and a lot of draft eligible players that are underclassmen.

Doyle
Phillips
Russell
Franklin
Kilen
Fischer
Curley
Bargo
Chapman
Peebles

All will be draft eligible, not saying they all leave...
I know Curley will be drafted pretty high but every week i watch him play i just dont understand what they see. He does not look natural in anything he does on a baseball field

I think as fans we're probably too critical of our guys.

6'3" 220lbs

In 119 Games a career .294 hitter with just 86 SOs against 419 ABs

His fielding I think a lot of that will be kind of overlooked because of how many different places he's been asked to play.

Also good chance Curley returns and tries to do what C-Mo did...because before his 2024 season he was in a similar position as Dean. Hitting right at .300...only he had 105 SOs in 332 ABs

Seniors very rarely get drafted early in the draft. Teams know they have no leverage and can't go back to school.

Best example, look at Evan Russell, he was a senior and didn't get drafted and had to sign an UDFA deal with the Angels.

Like I said, the baseball draft is completely different than football/basketball. It's not as simple as just returning back to school.

Agree with the point about leverage, but that's also why some might return to school if they think they can improve their draft stock.

Not sure Evan Russell is the best example...not a name I think we ever heard really getting draft buzz during any of his seasons here.

Baseball is for sure a different landscape. I believe our development is as good as most minor league clubs though, so think unless you're getting very firm six figure deals it's worth less travel to stay in college and develop here.

It's hard to go wrong. Any 2 of those and you've got a dynasty on your hands.

I'd go Duncan and Jordan. Jordan brings the flash and Duncan would find a way to complement him with shut down defense and rebounding plus they'd be a lethal pick and roll combination. They'd shut the rest of the league down for a decade.

I think it just depends.

I think if you're a pitcher, you absolutely go.

Strong armed infielder maybe moved around to much to get comfortable but should be drafted as a 3b. Hits to many ground balls imo but they can work on that. Will be drafted pretty high based on talent not necessarily production.

Evan is a bad example, he was never a MLB prospect. Usually if you aren’t drafted in the top 10 rounds, a player will choose to return to college. It depends on what a pro team is willing to offer. Sometimes a top 10 round guy will return if he is not getting the money that he wants. ( Especially with NIL)

Not to overlook tomorrow's game, but is it weird that this last series is at Arkie?

2015 at Fayetteville
2017 at Knoxville
2019 at Fayetteville
2021 at Knoxville
2023 at Fayetteville
2025 at Fayetteville

Anyway, I am excited to see what we can do as we invade piggly Bum-Wanker Stadium.

Everyone worried about Curley's fielding pct this season. For the record Billy Amick fielding pct last season was .926 and still drafted in first two rounds....and yes I know Amick hit 20+ homeruns...

I don't think NIL is as much as people think it is in college baseball
