Yes I think the issue is we overspent on the HS class. As others have pointed out we are investing at top tier in every sport. There is a limit to it all. Also you have to pick your battles on when you are going all in. Do we really want to go all in on Aguilar? IMO our biggest focus will be holding on to Faizon and Sanders.
This. If you think we aren’t paying, then how are we getting Faizon? Just like the NFL, there is more money invested in a few positions- QB, edge, and OT. That’s exactly who we are paying a bunch. We are paying this incoming class and had 23 enroll early, which affected the roster number.

Personally think Spyre is just spread out between the sports. I've been a member of the VolClub since the beginning. They had lofty goals then, they thought they could 5K members within a few months, when it took years. I remember a conference call when they had under 500 members still saying they wanted 5000 before the football season started. I wish more people would join the Vol Club.
What they need is a real salesman and a very experienced sales marketer.

I do not give big money, but I give. I am shocked that so few fans are members.

My take is Tennessee was early to the game, got ahead but now others have caught up, and Tennessee is settling back to where it has been in most other eras of college football - a high quality, top 10ish program that can win big if the cards align.

I think the big story in the coming years will be Bama and Georgia settling back to earth (I think Tennessee can match them in this era) while Texas, Ohio State and maybe a handful of other big money programs ascend to the top because they have more cash than everyone else.
But the good news is Heupel has absolutely done more with less. Some of the guys values are blowing up because our valuations are gaining merit with others.

A GM would help with this issue and many others.

There’s a reason all NFL franchises have a GM (or a GM functionary). And the current structure of college football probably makes a GM even more useful for day-to-day operations and salary management.
They stated that Billy High would have similar duties as he had as GM at North Carolina. His title is different as he is listed as Director of Internal and Advanced scouting. He stated at the Big Orange Club that Tennessee was ranked similar to how NFL runs their organizations.

That’s good news. How much roster control does he have?

I'm not going to argue about it anymore. Ask UNC basketball fans if hiring a former NBA/WNBA agent as their GM is magically making their roster better. They are pissed. You guessed it...it's about money. They aren't happy that football is getting tons. I'm not opposed to a GM but like you said there are limits.

People will always complain and want the next thing, but 800k to a GM is another expenditure. The real investment imo should either be in more guys like chop working behind the scenes or better recruiters in certain positions.
