So that's how it works? I'll be right back. Off to ask for more $$$$. Wish me luck.
What the hell is wrong with these kids? Asking for more money and haven't accomplished nothing yet. I've had many employees over the years come to me and say"I want a raise" and my question back is what have you done to earn a raise?

A couple quotes from this article that really stood out to me...

"You kept hearing rumblings all spring that [Iamaleava] one way or the other wouldn't be here in the fall," one Tennessee source told ESPN. "A lot of people were surprised he missed that practice, but it wasn't the first time he missed something he was supposed to be at, so I don't know if anybody should have really been that surprised."

And then there's this....

"I'm getting in the portal, if you need to handle your business," Iamaleava said as he was walking off the practice field, according to a Tennessee player who heard him say it.

One of the teammates went to Heupel to alert him. Heupel met with Iamaleava to make sure everything was OK and didn't mention anything about the information coming from teammates, and Iamaleava assured his coach that everything was good and it was "all a bunch of rumors."

and then the nail in the coffin on Nico....

"That next morning, Iamaleava didn't show up for Friday's practice or meetings and didn't alert anyone in the program.

Nic Iamaleava urged his son to go in and meet face-to-face with Heupel and his coaches to work things out, but Iamaleava felt betrayed, sources said, and did not speak with Heupel on Friday. Several people within the Vols' program tried to reach out to the quarterback to no avail."

So it was Nico, NOT Big Nic that decided to not show up to practice

Telling others he's getting the portal and then acting like all is well with coaches is some underhanded ish. It changes my opinion of Nico. He's not a naive nice guy. He's a guy that wants to be seen that way while actively doing harm.

how in the world did Nico feel betrayed - would love to know more about that.

that time you saw your dream car for sale. got out of the car, excited to finally see one 42 years later. and realize its $40,000.00.

back to the car, 😒😩
I looked at a car at the Rod Run a few years ago. It looked just like the car from the T.V. show the Munsters. I asked how much would it take to buy it, the owners reply was if you got $85,000 I will hand you the title right now. 😂😂😂

Here's my takeaway from all of this and why I don't think he ever becomes what he could be:

Think this baseball team needs a dude who's been in the program. honcho. burke. just an older dude.
People fretting over the baseball team make me laugh. We are on pace to lose two more SEC games than last year. We need to be playing our best baseball when we hit regionals and we will be fine.

Big Nic fell on his sword for his headcase son? If that's true.... and Chris Low is usually spot on when it comes to UT... it changes so much. Hell, we might even owe Big Nic an apology. What a damn mess.

Bro all he had to do was show up to practice and he wouldn’t have been painted as the bad guy. Kid has thin skin and won’t be ready for criticism in the NFL. How’s he gonna get mad if he’s telling teammates he’s leaving and then when the coaches and admin hear about it and it gets leaked? He’s the one being shady not the people he was planning to and ended up blindsiding. If this is all true then Nico might be more of the problem than Nic. Having Nic and his friends in his ear and shopping around before probably led to this behavior from Nico though even if it was Nico who decided to sit out.

It's blowing my mind that Big Nic may well have been trying to save his son from being stupid. I honestly like the Dad is a monster show-dad narrative better. It feels a lot less like a betrayal.
It kind of makes sense from their tweets that night where they were trying to save face.

IMO Nico was pissed we didn't up him when Carson got his bag. The timeline matches. Simple as that. He forgets Carson made less than him to start and passed the draft to take that final bag. He also won more. Nico still can/could. That was the catalyst though IMO. At this point let every kid that egotistical that would put only self in front of team walk. I am over it.

I wouldn't go that far. His dad had been shopping him around to other schools.

Nico was basically that disgruntled employee that shows up and does the job, has no real plans to leave, but likes to always act like they might leave because they want more money and aren't afraid to make it known to other employees in hopes of getting some sort of confirmation from others. That stuff is bad for team morale when it's coming from your QB and introduces some unnecessary instability to the team leading into the next season. UT leaked it to get movement one way or the other and it's obvious that they just wanted to get beyond the drama.
