Recruiting Football Talk VIII

A couple quotes from this article that really stood out to me...

"You kept hearing rumblings all spring that [Iamaleava] one way or the other wouldn't be here in the fall," one Tennessee source told ESPN. "A lot of people were surprised he missed that practice, but it wasn't the first time he missed something he was supposed to be at, so I don't know if anybody should have really been that surprised."

And then there's this....

"I'm getting in the portal, if you need to handle your business," Iamaleava said as he was walking off the practice field, according to a Tennessee player who heard him say it.

One of the teammates went to Heupel to alert him. Heupel met with Iamaleava to make sure everything was OK and didn't mention anything about the information coming from teammates, and Iamaleava assured his coach that everything was good and it was "all a bunch of rumors."

and then the nail in the coffin on Nico....

"That next morning, Iamaleava didn't show up for Friday's practice or meetings and didn't alert anyone in the program.

Nic Iamaleava urged his son to go in and meet face-to-face with Heupel and his coaches to work things out, but Iamaleava felt betrayed, sources said, and did not speak with Heupel on Friday. Several people within the Vols' program tried to reach out to the quarterback to no avail."

So it was Nico, NOT Big Nic that decided to not show up to practice

That article makes it seem like Nico had no idea what his father and other representatives were doing. They were shopping him behind the scenes and haggling over pay and he did not seem to know.
He sat out workouts in February and he himself chose not to show up on that Friday. He was also telling teammates he was transferring and trying to get them to leave too

Nico isn't as innocent as we think in this whole thing.

He felt betrayed? For what?
What a headcase.

I agree. Nico's camp is trying to paint him as innocent, but sources say otherwise.

According to (I assume) Big Nic, who I trust about as far as I could throw

Beat bama for the first time in 40 years. Better than anything Dobbs did. Glad Dobbs could beat Florida for the first time in 10+ years against a backup QB with a popular chain restaurant name.
Everyone knows that football is an individual sport strictly relying on the quarterback. The rest of the team is irrelevant. You’re making us think you are actually THE BUTCH JONES.

Well the fact that basically nobody super important went into the portal shows how badly they were fed up with him. And the ones who did enter the portal don’t look like they did it cause of him but to get more playing time somewhere.

I think Big Nic obviously calls the shots and controls his sons. However, day to day decisions on how to conduct himself and interact with his teammates falls on Nico. Glad it's over. Urge people to look to the future and move on. Aguilar, Merk, and Mac give the Vols three talented, apparently high character options that will be fun to watch develop.

Chris Low mentioned it as a possibility on 104.5, but Merk’s agent is asking for more $ now as well apparently

Think this baseball team needs a dude who's been in the program. honcho. burke. just an older dude.
Hunter Ensley is that guy this year. We lost some big time players from last years team and baseball is just a wonky sport. I also don’t think we have the pitching depth we had last year.

Chris Low, in his article, said it was Nico who decided to not show up; his dad was encouraging him to go talk to Heupel. Nico went silent on his own accord
I realize that, I'm saying I'd question the anonymous sourcing of that information and who it benefits. Also, just to be clear, I think that entire family is clearly toxic and I'm glad they're gone, Go Vols
