Recruiting Football Talk VIII

If you’re judging the class on paper before they hit the field then no he absolutely did not wrap up the second best
You didn’t see the context. Implying that JH can’t recruit because we’re not finishing in the top 3-5 recruiting classes yearly. The best numerically we’ve ever done was Butch’s 2015 class with 33 signees. Heupel was close to that this year with 10 less signees. That’s what I was referring to

Okay, new disagreement in the pismonque household. Just saw an IG post asking why we pronounce the G in longevity twice. Took me a while but I finally figured out what he's talking about. He's pronouncing it long-jevity rather than lon-jevity.

So I showed it to my wife and told her that same thing and she said yeah but everybody in the world pronounces it long-jevity. I said I have never in my life said it that way. She gave me her well-worn "there's something wrong with you" look and went off to bed.

She's an exceptionally bright woman (choice of husband notwithstanding) but Merriam Webster seems to agree with me. But I'm curious: any of you morans pronounce it with the double G?

I hear it both ways. lon-jevity is considered the preferred or correct pronunciation, but long-jevity is not uncommon and I don't see how it could bother anyone.

My guess is that the long-jevity people correctly intuit that the root of the first syllable is long (not lon) so they pronounce it that way. In other words, it has something right about it. They add jevity in conformity with the second syllable of the lon-jevity pronunciation. I don't mean that this is conscious.

If you think about it etymologically, it really "should" be pronounced long-ēvity. With a long ē beginning the second syllable as in primeval, medieval, and coeval. And no one says like that! 😂

I could see the names that came up in December appearing again tomorrow. Matthews and Boo?
Nico and his handlers set a bad example. He was the team leader, even if he was not a good leader. I think they would both be better off at Tennessee, and I hope they see it that way. Recall that Big Nick was not only asking for mo money on the regular, he took it upon himself to get all up in Heupel's business about how to run the offense, especially the passing game. And Matthews and Boo were directly involved in those enhancements. There is no reason to imagine that Heupel wouldn't add new features to his offense without a player's dad acting like it was his idea.

I tried to find Cam, but for the most part the numbers are illegible, perhaps intentionally. I read that
Greene had the offense's biggest play on a creative lateral to set up a wide-open Cameron Seldon for a 57-yard touchdown. The junior totaled 65 yards on three catchers to build off the highlight score.

Basillyo reads the UT boards then spitballs. If it sticks, I'm sure he claims to have broken the news. If it doesn't, he ignores or just makes excuses as to what changed.

Im not local so I don’t get to listen to Basillo on the radio live. Figured I’d give him a listen since everyone was referencing things he mentioned. Downloaded his pod yesterday and made it to the part where he took Andy’s call and took him serious. Literally was asking Andy what he’s hearing and if he’s talked to the Nico family or if he’s getting info from other players. Then said he was gonna try and help Andy do dis tracks for the baseball team.
