Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Yeah...Heupel doesn't prepare QBs for the NFL.

Yet he's had 2 QBs graduate and both get drafted. Joe got to play for one game and looked amazing, Dallas was quick to trade to pick him up too.

Maybe Nico should've stuck with volleyball...we got a full season of him playing with arguably the best RB in Vol history (for sure the best season by a RB). And a WR group full of talent with an OL that could have 2-3 NFL guys off it. But somehow there wasn't enough talent around him.
WR group full of talent?? Must have missed that part of the team

Joel Klatt just said it was more than money...Bull..you dont ask for 200% money if it isnt primarily about the money..if it was scheme, one would accept no change if you paid them off? I call bull.

Lmao.....that loser Klatt doesn't know a thing...he's never known anything. One of the biggest wannabes in the bussiness

I just don’t find any of this makes it much better, even if true.

Joel klatts an enemy of the program. He isn't allowed within 50 miles of Knoxville

Nico's team is in full damage control mode. I have no doubt Nico was wanting more players around him but I believe the $4MM. The scheme or lack thereof was somewhat due to his abilities/capabilities, IMO. This offense just didn't all of a sudden go in the crapper. His offense has worked everywhere he's been. He's done less with more before. He overplayed his hand and now he's paying the price. I fully believe he had no intention of leaving, decided to miss practice to turn up the heat, and it backfired on him.

I have said this before but once again “Praise Mama Mashack” and the many other vol parents that know how to be an advocate and an asset to their child while letting them make their own way. Praise Hendon’s family for sharing his story with us and Milton’s family for sharing the tragedy they went through. There are plenty of others but there are too many out there that aren’t thinking about what’s best for the kid just what’s best for them or their family right now. And in that last bit it’s fine and good if a kid wants to give back to his family but that should come from the heart not from family expecting it.

Nico and camp imo had a right to question oline and WR play but here’s the thing. If you don’t like what was added or the plan moving forward, you leave in December. Period. Not now. It was mostly about money for them to leave at this point in time, agreed.

No mowing for me for a while. Having the first of my hips replaced on Thursday, so I will be unable to complete my lawn care duties and responsibilities. Good news is, crocs are not forbidden in the recovery phase.

<insert joke>
I heard @Weezer knows how to mow your grass. 😬

*I hope all goes well and you're kicking butts again soon. 🙏

Hope you recover quickly.

And I always knew you were a gator fan. I bet you wear jorts, too.

Anything that Klatt is passing off as info on the Nico situation is directly from TJ Houshmondzadeh. Houshmondzadeh has been designated as the damage controller because Big Nic converses in public discourse like a scorned teenage girl. The very weak "didn't tweak the system" excuse just doesn't fly. No one is buying what they are selling or someone besides Klatt would be carrying their water. He's the bottom of the sports reporting barrel, next to Danny Kanel.

Listening to the Sports Animal today while I took my mom to her doctor's appointment. Why is the narrative suddenly getting friendlier toward Nico, and harsher against us? And especially from our local radio guys? Makes zero sense.

Wherever Nico ends up, which it's being made to sound like either UCLA or UNC, I hope he fails. Damn right, I'm bitter. I really thought we'd see improvement from him this season.

Seems like the new narrative is we're not good enough at WR and OL. That could spook actual good QBs from considering us in the portal.

I’m NOT absolving Nico of responsibility, I’m a huge believer in personal accountability. It’s the whole design God has for the world.

However, I have learned to give more grace and be more understanding of people’s circumstances. He was raised how he was raised. You can’t divorce that fact from the conversation. His dad runs the show. It’s obviously a family thing, and evidently a cultural thing also, although I have a hard time believing most Polynesian patriarchs are so wreckless with their families and have such poor morals as big nic. Should nico have made better decisions? Yep. But it isn’t that simple, when all you have known your entire life is to defer big decisions to your dad. He trusted his dad to lead him the right direction. Unfortunately dad isn’t the best role model.

Like I said before, Hopefully he learns a lesson

I’m glad so many of y’all had life all figured out when you were 20 and knew exactly when to, and when not to take your dads counsel, and always made good decisions.
Spot on. I have known multiple people who have struggled well into adulthood to create distance and establish appropriate boundaries with parents who are overbearing, controlling, manipulative or even downright coercive. That can be an incredibly complicated and painful situation to navigate. The arrival of your 18th birthday doesn’t mean you figure it all out overnight. None of us will ever know what’s really going on with Nico and his family (nor should we), but from the outside looking in, it seems to me like there is at least a little of this dynamic playing out.

I should of added, he said the narrative has been set by UT because of our fanbase, AD, and resources..like Nico is the victim..kinda made me angry.

News spends one day arguing one side another day arguing the other. Every topic gets double coverage because there is only so much original content. The vast majority are on our side, with more of the vitriol now aimed at his team (Dad) than at Nico.
