Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I just can’t help but keep but coming back to the feeling of this being a net detractor to our ability to win football games and keep building program momentum. Pay the man who gives you the best chance to win. Where is the drama in that? Until there’s rules, that’s the landscape. Which we essentially created. If he was gonna be gone after next season anyways who cares. You're not just buying him, you’re buying a year of development for the next guys.

Sure hope the team is able to rally around this enough to make up for the talent and development gap. And don’t lose anyone else because of it. Otherwise it’s a pretty huge risk to take a step back at this stage in building a talented and winning roster. And what’s 1-2 more million for that when the program brings in $300million+ annually.
Have you ever been on a team before? QB has to be the absolute leader of the team. It’s not a money thing

I think it’s their dependence on experience over talent. This could be a great beta test season where they can’t rely on Bru and Squirrel but instead have to target Matthews, Staley and two of the freshmen.
True, part of it for sure. But why in s4 do we have 7 scholly WR, 6 now.

👀👀👀🧐 would have to pay the QB more than Nico? Nope, nope. I refuse to go there...
I mean is it really a different situation at all. All these QBs know we have a need and will either use us to leverage pay raises gundy style or make us pay “market value plus some” for ______ ?

They said at the start that this is basically an open practice. Groups all over the field doing drills. The "action" is 7 on 7 mostly. Too many folks injured and sick for full blown scrimmage.
I found a live stream from Vawl Father on X.

They are straight up scrimmaging right now. It's 11 on 11.

Not only have they not streamed it, but the vol network won't talk about the play on the field.

Crazy.

Have to admit, it's becoming harder to stay invested in college athletics. We're at a point where the only people expected to be loyal are the fans. Everybody else is free to go wherever, for any reason and at any time - including midseason in some cases. And that sucks.
I think you’ll see people who were fans because their parents were, but didn’t attend school there, lose interest from one generation to the next. If you didn’t go there and have something else within the vicinity to fill the appetite, what’s holding the loyalty intact? Can tradition only go so far?

1) It's not the $100mm+ program paying him. It's the NIL collective, funded by individuals and with (I'd estimate) an already projected and spent budget for the very near future.

2) I truly believe this could have had a different endgame had it been private and done months ago. As-is, if we cave now publicly, then we've set the precedent to every other player from here on out [or until we finally make players employees with Uni-SA contracts].

Yes, we'll likely take a step back this year without a transfer (who we may even spend more to get), but we made the necessary long-term decision for the program. With all of the concerns already looming, I don't think we were looking at a championship season either way, so imo it's not a huge loss having to rebuild this season.

Iyam we're looking forward to a Y2-Y3 GMac/Y1-Y2 FBrandon future atp.
