Recruiting Football Talk VIII

You can take Ohio State off the list of speculating where Nico ends up. Big Ten Network finished televising OSU spring game at 2:00 p.m. . Sayin looked pretty good for a RS Freshmen.

I do feel bad for Nico. Most kids look to their parents for guidance and trust their advice. Nico’s father simply sabotaged his career due to ignorance and greed. Nico has to be thinking why the hell did I listen to him.

The saying it’s never as good or as bad as it seems. Well this is as bad as it seems for Nico, for his career and relationship with his family.
Truly sad. Just flat pathetic.

I don’t think Nico was worth the extra $$ but that doesn’t mean we’ll be fine in 2025. We’ll take a step back as I would also be surprised to see us pay for a proven QB. Very much looking at a rebuilding year and need to stock talent for 2026 if we can hold onto it.
I think it’s too early to tell if this will be a step back or a step forward. Let’s face it the bar Nico set last year wasn’t real high. He could have made a major leap from last season but it’s hard to ignore the fact the staff cut bait pretty quick. Hard to believe he was setting the world on fire knowing that. I think this has a decent chance to be a net positive but it’s hard to know until you see the new quarterback play with bullets flying. Nico was mid pack in the SEC last year in basically every statistical category and that’s just facts. Time will tell but I think the best thing for the team and culture was to tell him to pack his bags.

I just can’t help but keep but coming back to the feeling of this being a net detractor to our ability to win football games and keep building program momentum. Pay the man who gives you the best chance to win. Where is the drama in that? Until there’s rules, that’s the landscape. Which we essentially created. If he was gonna be gone after next season anyways who cares. You're not just buying him, you’re buying a year of development for the next guys.

Sure hope the team is able to rally around this enough to make up for the talent and development gap. And don’t lose anyone else because of it. Otherwise it’s a pretty huge risk to take a step back at this stage in building a talented and winning roster. And what’s 1-2 more million for that when the program brings in $300million+ annually.

Honestly, this is not surprising, and it happens everywhere.

My wife’s friend manages an NIL collective for a D-1 school and it’s like pulling teeth with a lot of the kids.
Will West said the same thing. Common issue with NIL. Not just Nico or UT players.

Stayley has butter fingers, and the qbs looked shaky in 7on7, we definitely need a qb to compete for qb1 in the portal, as well as a wr or 2
I hope things change. We know they can coach....It could end of being Huepel and staffs lack of elite recruiting/taking projects that gets them on the hot seat:
