Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Merk is completely unproven and has yet to take a meaningful snap. It's going to be a struggle at least initially. This whole thing just sucks
Yeah and we face a decent Syracuse team in ATL to open the season. I was thinking about going to that game, but not sure I will now.

Nico was so bad at times last year that people were calling for Gaston Moore to start. They probably weren’t the smartest bunch, but it happened. I’d rather run wildcat than pay Nico another penny more. Can’t imagine sitting out on your team who all earn less than you and carried you to a 10 win season is a good look either. Should have been 11 wins if Nico didn’t s*** the bed against Arkansas and he literally quit on the last play to boot.

Wonder if CJH takes the high road during the press conference after Orange&White game today?

Will he talk about Nico situation or will he revert to the events of the Orange and White game?

Would like to add that CJH has to be torn on the inside. Nico was his Golden Child recruit ....

I doubt he answers a single question about it and will probably say “no questions about yesterday”

What I am curious to see is the roster's reaction. The next few weeks are going to be interesting.

No Dylan Sampson, no playoffs last season. He was beat to death by the end of it, but he was the leader that kept the focus on O. We all know the D carried the season.

I have no desire to sign all about me guys that only want a paycheck. Whether that is driven by the player or the family - don't care. Do not want. "I will give my all for Tennessee" still means something special.

I have a saved TikTok video I watch when needed.

In light of the Nico situation, I thought I would post the words of the video for those that may need it. (I can’t post the saved video for some reason and I don’t have TikTok anymore)

Just let them.
If they want to choose something or someone over you, let them.
If they want to go weeks without talking to you, let them
If they are ok with never seeing you again, let them.
If they are ok with always putting themselves first, let them.
If they are showing you who they are and not what you perceive them to be, let them.
If they want to follow the crowd, let them.
If they want to judge or misunderstand you, let them.
If they act like they can live without you, let them.
If they want to walk out of your life and leave, open the door; let them.
Let them lose you; you were never theirs.
Let them show you who they really are, not tell you.
Let them prove how worthy they are of your time.
Let them see the heart in you that didn’t harden.
Just let them.

Has Heupel ever been known to speak his mind about things? I don’t mean that as a swipe at him, but he’s typically pretty quiet on outside noise situations.

My guess is that we’ll get a quiet, no speaking pause followed by a “next question”.

I hope that’s the case. Don’t give the greedy little ass any attention.

2nd rate player say from San Diego state, a 6'4" 248 lb defensive end, makes 500 week in Nil,
Playing someone like Colorado next season for example, looks across line at a guy who made 4 mil the last 2 years, does he take the 15 yard penalty and knock him into next week a second or 2 late after the whistle?
I don't think this is going away for him anytime soon, and by soon I mean forever

Colossal miscalculation

Bottom line is the market dictates worth. And while this team went to the playoffs it was riding the defense. Offense was non-existent at times. That's not all on Nico to be fair. But coach had to scheme around Nico and the o line and leaned on the defense.

To come back after 1 year and demand doubling your pay when you only met expectations? It's a little far. And to play hardball as they did while backdoor negotiating other landing spots........ While I get it, it's business. You made it business, you got business. Good luck, but it ain't here anymore. You either want to be here and negotiate in good faith or you don't. You chose the latter, it is what it is.

We'll be fine, hope the same for you.
Well said. You also can’t ignore the fact we paid him 2 million to sit on the bench as a freshman in college. It’s ludicrous. You have to cut bait and acknowledge that you made an error in your evaluation of him. It happens every year in the NFL draft. Just move on and invest the money in other players. I don’t want him representing my university.

Think about all the fathers that have to explain this to their 6 and 8 year old sons that idolize Nico
My 12 yr old grasps that Nico’s camp is redonkulous. He said “Bye Felecia”. We paid him on potential to come to UT. His performance thus far has not garnered a bump. Just greed but I get why since there’s been hardly any structured model in place so it’s whatever the player dictates. I think we’ve seen the end of true collegiate athletics.
