Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I’m not worried about the guys who left, in the least. I thought at the time (there was much Henny Penny in the air) that Barnes would use the occasion to upgrade the roster. I think Barnes definitely succeeded in doing that. I thought so at the time the transfers signed on, and I still think so. Great job by Barnes.

To be called “old fashioned, Barnes sure is working the portal like he cut his teeth on it. Very impressive.

I feel like he did upgrade

Felix:
in 36 games, 25.6 mpg, 7.2 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 1.7 bpg
Aidoo:
in 32 games, 18.4 mpg, 6.9 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 1.1 bpg

Igor:
in 35 games, 25.8 mpg, 9.7 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 2.0 apg, 0.7 spg, 0.7 bpg
Awaka:
in 36 games, 19.6 mpg, 8.2 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 0.7 apg, 0.4 spg, 0.6 bpg

Chaz:
in 36 games, 31.3 mpg, 18.1 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 1.1 apg, 0.9 spg
Freddie:
in 31 games, 24.6 mpg, 9.4 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.7 apg, 0.9 spg

I mean if Awaka was still here Dubar probably isn't...but he may not be getting the same minutes or production.

We're basically playing an 8 man rotation with all 8 guys playing 10mpg or more....

I love to try and string these morons out as long as possible thinking that I might actually want to sell my home and move on purpose.
Cant remember if someone on here posted or not. May have been @BenGrimm.

Someone posted that they'd dug too far underneath. Good news is they've found Mithril. Bad news is there may be a Balrog. Either way, they'd still need a $1M to justify.

😆

Theoretically, because chaotic systems like hers tend to raise your ceiling and lower your floor. So you make a game like UConn winnable, but you also make yourself vulnerable to losing to 13-19 Georgia at home.

So, the question posed is, once she gets top-level talent and has less of a need to raise the ceiling of her team, will she adjust her system to make it less susceptible to upsets? I’m not advocating for it or against it, I’m just curious to see whether it happens.
Given the necessary wins are all in March, I'd say no. Unlike football where 1 awful reg season game can ruin you.

Bring in the talent, keep the positive variance.

Haven’t been around much lately but have a weird question. People saying Plowman and Danny were congratulating LV’s yesterday, does Danny have a skin head now?

Whoever was with Donde yesterday had no hair whatsoever..

I was wondering what this upset could be compared to so we could understand it's magnitude better. Was it like when the yanks beat the ruskies in hockey? Bigger?
It's hard to compare it tbh. Especially since its an individual sport.

From an NCAA perspective it's the biggest upset in any sport when you factor in the scene (finals). It's not like App State beating Michigan in that case.

Gable was an Olympic champion as a college kid against grown-arsed men without allowing a single point. He had lost 1 match as a freshman then had gone undefeated in college/world/olympic competition for 5-6 years. He retired from wrestling after 2022 and returned this year for his final year of eligibility just for funsies.

Hendrickson was a 5th year senior who had to get military approval to transfer from Air Force. He'd had a great career but had never made the finals. He wasn't even the favorite to win the title BEFORE Gable announced his return. Then he went undefeated.

I mean I guess it would be like if a football team went undefeated in football for 5 straight seasons, averaging a 35pt margin of victory and not winning by anything less than 21, with a QB who had won 4 straight Heismans. Just utter domination. Then in the NCAA finals they lose to a team like 2022 Tennessee with Hendon Hooker in the final second. That would be the only football scenario I could imagine.

I mean Chaz and JM can handle it while ZZ is out, but I've always thought.
Starting 5
Then a backup 1/2 guard
Backup 3/4
Backup center
Is the perfect rotation

then have a big and combo guy that only play of there is foul trouble.

ZZ, Chaz, Shack, Igor, Felix
Gainey
N/A (Dubar I think was supposed to be this guy, but he's really not been great)
Cade

Now had Carr stayed he was that backup 3/4 option because of his length. And obviously healthy JP gives you another big option that can play 4 or 5

As much as I can't stand BOT and have him/her/it on ignore, finding someone online that uses "reading comprehension" as an attack and also believes in legalizing drugs isn't exactly like finding a unicorn. There's a lot of folks online that would check those boxes. However, I'm not exactly opposed to fudging the evidence if it boots BOT.
You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

Dubar has shown some good flashes though. He has hit some big shots for us. I think maybe if he gets a few more opportunities, his confidence will grow. Maybe I am wrong but it doesn’t seem like he takes enough shots to get going. I think a big key to the UK and other games is Gainey and Igor. Igor has got to get his mojo back. We need quality points from Gainey off the bench.

Or...think about it like this how high is the floor when she's got a roster of 12 or more talented girls so when she's subbing there isn't as big of a drop off? But they all can play the chaotic system at a high level.

Women's basketball has a far smaller group of teams that can offer NIL funds and exposure. I'd say it's less than a dozen.

Men's basketball is far greater...not all of them can pay for a 5-8 man roster full of talent...but a team like BYU can afford to chase 3 guys...and you have some basketball only conferences like the Big East where their NIL priority is basketball.

I actually think Kim winning and using her style of play where 10 girls get 14+ minutes and playing in 30 plus games will be far more helpful in recruiting.

Exactly.
Add Estrealla and drop Dubar, and I think you have as close to the perfect rotation as one is going to get.

I know people like 10 or more because of rest, but I've always thought it hurts guys and their rhythms.

Someone brought up the LV, and while they do sub an insane amount they still have 2 Cooper and Spencer who played 30 minutes which is a ton in that system.
It's mainly the bigs that Kim constantly runs in and out.
