Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I just made a comment about sacrificing the football budget to win a basketball championship and what a coincidence…an overpaid QB is going to free up a few million on his own accord! The universe may just will this into existence.

NIL money is evolving. It could be assumed that Nico is actually underpaid. I think we all would be surprised if Nico left. I do believe his instagram post is a shot at Squirrel and Staes too. Like, why leave when I’m your QB?

His deal was groundbreaking at the time like Underwood and Mensah’s have been recently. If the new deals shift the scale then he’s closer to “adequately paid” now for the job performance we received. If he balled out this year, he’d get a new deal to keep him at the top pay level. He was one of, if not the highest paid player in college sports in a year he played 1 game. Year 2 he was still one of the highest paid players and probably wasn’t even a top 50 player in the country. Seems like a better investment to pay linemen and skill positions and roll w a cheaper QB. Ask OSU. Nico’s body of work to date doesn’t warrant higher pay and it’s a bit laughable to me. I understand continuity is important but I’d rather see another school take the risk if he’s fielding offers for more $. About like Jonas Aidoo in basketball.

I'd cut a trail too. They don't need the money and certainly wouldn't want the headache. I wouldn't be surprised to see coaches quit after 5-6 years of making $10m a year. I would.

That’s what I’m thinking…along with it tampering with the NBA league/Draft..once that happens they will put a cap and make it more strict…the more coaching interviews I hear about NIL the more I think Saban and even coach K retired prematurely because they seen the format coming

About your earlier post, Riley appears to have his QB. And with Madden committing to Arkansas, not sure a return to the WC would make much sense for Nico.

Squirrel white is Tennessee’s 7th all time leader in receptions. People forget that.
He’s a good player. Too bad he was hurt this year.
He was one of the receivers the last couple years that you could count on every game to catch a few.
He was a #3 receiver and people mad because he didn’t play like a #1.

They should appreciate what he did and be mad at the ones we got to be a #1,2 didn’t deliver.

CTV and CRB are called into AD Danny White's office.

ADDW says "Gentlemen I've called this meeting to inform you both that there will be no more NIL money for your Sports".

CTV says " WTF, is it because football fans are complaining about no money for the Porthole "?

ADDW replies "Yes, Tony".

At this moment CRB chimes in " Well with all due respect, I think this is wrong in many ways".

ADDW replies " I'm sorry gentlemen ".

CTV says " Has CKC been informed about this as well"?

ADDW replies " No Tony, CKC is pregnant and she needs very little stress at this moment, I will inform her when time is right."

CTV replies" Good luck with informing Kim, she is a wildcat".

Yeah the only reason Saban became the greatest coach of all time was by buying players 🙄. Some of you are just dumb.
Just dumb yeah got ya . Give Heupel 20 five star and 40 four star players. How many times does he win the championship in 15 years. Not saying he was good but damn. How many coaches could win with that much talent ? Saban was dealt with nothing but the best players...

lol. You just assume they could. Saban did it. He got those players. If you honestly think Saban bought every one of his highly ranked players then prove it. Show me the irrefutable proof. See it seems you and some other TN fans just can’t get it through your head that Saban was simply the greatest football coach of all time.

Did he cheat? Of course he did. Guess who else did? Fulmer, Bowden, Spurrier, Meyer, Jimmy Johnson, Butch Davis, Tom Osbourne. The list goes on and on. One of the biggest aspects of a college head coach is to get the players. Saban did it. Do I believe Heupel could even come close to winning at the level Saban did if he got equal talent? No. No I don’t.

Look we beat Saban in 2022. Saban was at the end of his career and it was wine of his worst teams in awhile. And it took a miracle for us to do it.

I don’t understand how or why Heupel’s offense now has so few wrinkles. It’s not like Heup is helpless without an experienced OC. He IS an experienced OC with a hell of a track record. He has to be signing off on this playbook and these play calls. Did he fall in love with winning games on the ground and with defense last year or something? It’s just bizarre.

I know it’s not all playcalling and people have pointed out the plays are there. But there’s still so little creativity it seem.
Personally, I think that he needs a QB like Hendon Hooker. It’s a matter of seeing the field and making the decision quickly. Hooker was great at it. It was obvious the leap from season one to two with Hooker at the helm.

I think that Milton handcuffed the offense whether by ability to hit the receivers or understanding the defense and making a snap decision.

I think that right now Nico is closer to Milton than Hooker. If he can make that transition, then this next year then we will see an offensive performance more like 2022s.

I also don’t think the receivers have done what they are supposed to do either. The route trees are limited due to QB and WR limitations not CJH limits.

If you look closely at Nico when the camera is in a closeup of his face right before the snap, he looks frantic. When they showed Hooker, he always looked relaxed.

I said it before, but I really think that Nico staying in Knoxville with all the receivers and working on route timing will help more than any other single thing.

Nico is a freshman.

Milton was a fifth year Senior.

HH, son of a dadgum QB coach, saw the field better.
