Recruiting Football Talk VIII

All these kids have seen is Alabama winning 6 National Championships and Tennessee sucking. I know some coaches and they try to get their kids to look at Tennessee, but Bama is ingrained in these kids for most of their lives and that’s a huge pull for these kids. It’s going to take several years of Bama not being elite for that to change.
You'd be surprised how quickly that will change, news tast these days.

I honestly think Sampson is better than Kamara. I would not trade Sampson for any other rb we’ve had in the 2000’s
Sampson is a unique combo of power and speed. He is in the Walter Payton mode. Sweetness rarely played behind a good o-line and could make his own holes and he always fell forward and was rarely stopped for a loss. When he had space, watch out. Sampson is like that.

Not even close. Jamal Lewis is by far the best RB in program history based on TALENT. Dylan might end up having the best career but he's not even top 5 in terms of talent in the last 30 years.
Jamal was not nearly as versatile as Sampson. He was an Earl Campbell/Derek Henry type of back.

I love Sampson but this is an insane take. Alvin Kamara is pretty much Sampson with better contact balance and way better receiving ability.

Put Kamara in this offense and he would go crazy.
Not insane, Kamara and Sampson are very similar backs. And I think we are seeing what AK could have been at Tennessee if Butch wasn't an idiot. I think Samson will do similar at the next level.

But the band stops playing when the ball is centered. This is true in Middle, High, and College.

Yes, we and every decent program on the planet pipe in noise in the form of DJ, Band, Music, National Anthem Singers, Announcers, Commercials, etc.

None of those play when the ball is live.

Such a weak sauce discussion. Maybe we should apologize for our loud ass fireworks after touchdowns too.
I don't think that is a rule in H.S. At least not where I live, our high school band plays constantly. Granted there really aren't any laws where I live.

Highly doubt it. No way Saban loses to Vandy like that. Not with his staff. They were not at their peak but with Saban and his staff they would still be a legit too 10 team. Saban knew how to get the most out of his players. Also it needs to be realized that a Bama team was picked by Saban for his system. If Saban were there right now, I would be willing to bet they would be undefeated. I am not sure we beat them with Saban.

People ragging on Deboer should realize that while he inherited a loaded roster, they doesn’t mean it’s the right one for his particular system.
It was apparent to everyone with a clue two years ago that it was over for Alabubba. And yes Nick would have probably suffered the same fate but he was smart enough to see the handwriting on the wall and get out. Nick was losing control of the lockerroom and NIL and the Portal were the last straw. It was over at Bama and Nick knew it.
As my son said almost exactly two years ago to his Bammer buddy, "Daddy doesn't live here anymore, he's moving out."

Since we have an off weekend, I might go back and rewatch all of our games and individually “grade” each starter on the OL to see who’s actually been the worst…season wise.

I saw Nebraska fan do this on X. “Basically if you do your job you get a 0, if you go above you get a +1, if you have an amazing play you get a +2, if you have a bad play you get a -1, and if you have a penalty or missed assignment you get -2, every lineman should finish the game positive”

Obviously we can say Heard, but I’m curious where they all fall.

This is why when Nebraska fans insist their is stuff to do in Nebraska, I know they are lying lol

I’ll save you the time. Heard and Campbell.

I started watching football in the late 90s/early 2000s so my top 5 would look like this:

1. Jamal Lewis
2. Alvin Kamara
3. Arian Foster
4. Jalen Hurd
5. Travis Henry

D-Samp would be in a battle for 6th with Cedric Houston. Both just ahead of Jalen Wright and Travis Stephens.
They all ran behind better o-lines than Sampson. Foster and Henry for sure would not have prospered this season.

1. Jamal Lewis
2. Chuck Webb
3. Charlie Garner
4. Alvin Kamara
5. Travis Henry

Not my top 5, but a damn good top 5!

1. Travis Henry, only 3k rusher in program history, 5.5 ypc, part of the 2 headed monster that helped us win a natty
2. James "Little Man" Stewart, considering he had to split carries with Aaron Hayden & Charlie Gardner his whole career impressive that he's 3rd all time in yards and 1st all time in TDs at 35
3. Jamal Lewis, good chance he's a finalist for Heisman in 98 if he didn't get hurt.
4. Charlie Garner, there's a reason why he demanded carries despite Stewart and Hayden being in the same back field
5. Dylan Sampson, 2nd in all time rushing TDs with 30 and he's only played in 29 games a career 6 ypc guy and this is the first season he's gotten more than 110 carries...dude is a stud if he returned for a 4th season he'd own every career record and it wouldn't be close

Johnnie Jones, Webb & Cobb and a few others were just before my time.

Consensus seems to believe it’s the Duane Morris. But if you listened to AP in pods/radio spots since making the mystery recruit comments he still makes it sound doubtful that Morris ever visits.

Additionally on the last Chase Thomas podcast, Matt Ray was on and CT asked him which was a position we’re most likely to add to in the ‘25 between LB and RB… Matt said LB.

That combined with USC being butthole, I am switching my mystery recruit prediction to being Jordan Perlotte.
Lol wut? Morris? How utterly deflating.

I guess when AP said “elite” and “position of need” I got my hopes up for some baller DT or S or OT coming out of nowhere.

Oh well. Thanks for the info.

Would be very interested to see this. Kinda tough bc you don’t know blocking assignments on every play but can def see when they get beat 1 on 1.

My guesses would be they’ll grade out (1 is best and just for reg starters):

1 - Coop
2 - Karic
3 - Spraggins
4 - Campbell
5 - Heard
