Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Agree.
However, the list of previous "bad" hires were long and distinguished......and from the jump, the hire looked iffy.

Im so glad it's worked out.
True but you can't make individuals take the job. Only can get what you can get at that moment.

The Gruden thing ever coaching search was hilarious, that guy was never going to coach college football. Anywhere.

The only thing slightly holding Heupel back is we recruit a profile of quality young men of character who fit our culture. Which limits our target pool a little bit. But it’s so worth it. Look at Georgia, Kiffin’s class, or Bruce Pearl days. Who cares what your rankings are when your players turn your streets into the fast and furious franchise every offseason or rob a convenience store. Or in the case of Alabama basketball literally murder someone.
Heupel does recruit character. Don't believe that these guys can't be helped, these young men just need a leader to worry more about what type of men they will be in 10 years vs. the athlete they are in the present.

love the enthusiasm

Bob's a decent feller...but he is putrid. I figure this is what we have to endure for having 2 of the all time 🐐s in Nelson and Ward before him..

If Danny does his job, he will push Bob into retirement and get us a golden voice worthy of this fanbase and the platinum level Tennessee Volunteer broadcaster legacy.

Bob is an embarrassment....so freaking bad.

We could open up an old wound here............. 🤔 ;) and I don't want to...............

BUT........I will stand on this hill..........I had a good friend, pretty high up in the athletic department, who swore up/down that JG to Tennessee was a "done deal" for a short time. He has passed away now.
I remember him coming in the golf shop and looking at me and said, "Gruden is the next HC. He agreed."

Not sure we'll ever really know. My friend might have been drunk. Who knows.

I had to listen while putting my newborn down during the Arkansas game. He genuinely sounded excited at the thought that Arkansas converted 4th down and disappointed when they didn't. I don't understand how somebody gets a job like that and doesn't realize that enthusiasm for the school you work for is expected.

That’s why I didn’t understand Deboer being upset. I saw it twice, and I didn’t see us change personnel after bringing on the ones after the break. The announcers made a suggestion that we substituted, but I told the people I was watching with that it was after a break and why would we substitute?
That announcer was propagandizing very much during the broadcast. He was much worse than the actual Bammer.

I listened to parts of the Bama radio live coverage last night and they said that the penalty was warranted. There was no disagreement among them about that fact.

That TV announcer looked like he was trying continually to flirt with McElroy. McElroy's wife needs to look into him.

It makes sense- just like a defense seeing if the punt team or the offense is coming on the field for a 4th and 1. However, the defense is able to match the offensive personnel, but why was Bama running a player off the field? That means they didn't like their matching and needed to change personnel, which makes the call a correct one. That's on Bama.
They screwed up with the original substitution and tried to fix but it was too late, enter Kiffin TO.

Man I’m still in awe at what Gaston Moore did in his literal only snap 😂😂😂 my man was going for broke.
He ain't skeert, that's for dang sure...he came in guns blazin...lol.

I think if he did have to take over, he would put tremendous pressure on defenses down the field...for better or worse.

Just saw where Charles Morgan passed away. Some may remember him playing for the Vols in 1980. He was a HS teammate of Reggie White and was a very good player in his own right. Glad to say that both Reggie and Charles were friends of mine since about 1978. I wish Charles would have stayed at TN but he is still a VFL. Prayers for the Morgan family.
RIP
