Recruiting Football Talk VIII

SIAP, but anyone else other than me getting a bit concerned that Tennessee may get left out at 10-2? Things are trending towards a lot of teams bunched up at 10-2 this year, and I’m now seeing 11-1 Indiana being projected as over us in some rankings.

Feels like things are likely to work themselves out with some crazy upsets during the back half of the year. But right now it’s looking like quite a few teams will be at 10-2 at worst.

I'll never understand thinking like this. Why are you concerned about a scenario that might not even happen? We're 6-1 right now. Focus on winning every game from now. If a loss then worry about the repercussions. But worrying about losses that haven't even happened yet is the epitome of a beta mentality.

We're going 11-1 until otherwise.

I like that W/L stat when the TSIO teams are ranked.

Bama made a living beating up on some special ed TN coaches. They can’t beat us when we’re decent.
Not just Bama. More specifically, Saban made a living doing that. Order has been restored.
Saban at Bama is definitely a thing that happened, but in the last 15 UT-Bama games not involving Saban, Vols have 12 wins to Bama’s 2 (not counting one that was vacated).

I think it’s key for us to receive the ball first each game to get in a rhythm to start the game. Our offense looks practically like ‘21 and ‘22’s the first drive of each game, and I think if we could finish the drives then each of the last 3 games would end differently, as in beat uf and bama by 2+ scores each

-Vs Arkansas they received the ball first and held it for 10 minutes and then the illegal man down field penalty first play.

-Vs Florida and Bama we got the ball first and were driving inside both team’s 30 yardline, then fumbled the ball away.

Im very curious to see how different those games would be if we could have cashed in those drives, and not let arky hog the ball for that long. I think that really effected our rhythm vs arky.

Probably need more than one. We have 5 DL who play that are in their last year of eligibility. Big O, Simmons, ONL, Eason, and I believe Bailey. Other than Pearce at Edge, not certain who else we might lose from the junior class. Hopefully no one but can't say that with certainty. To maintain our rotation and keep guys fresh, we probably need at least 2-3. Part of our dominant DL play is having fresh bodies to rotate in. I'm guessing some of our commits will need some time in the weight room before they're truly ready to contribute.

Gonna need 2-3 on the OL as well, and have to hope Elarbee has some of the young guys ready to play.

If scholarship cap remains at 85 for next season, we'll have to push some guys out to make room. There are guys on the roster who have to be ready to contribute next year, and if they can't, then it might be time for them to look elsewhere. Not everyone fits this system. I'd feel a lot better if I knew the proposed 105 limit was going to be in effect. No matter the limit, we have to operate two scholarships down. So our limit will either be 83 or 103. 103 would be much nicer.
Eason and Bailey can both come back.
