Recruiting Football Talk VIII

You dont think genetics plays a large role in that?
Possibly for some with genetic issues along with choices of health and nutrition in their past. Some may not receive the same benefits as a result. I tend to go with what the Creator intended now. Obviously Big Pharm and FDA health orientation did not exist at that point.

My good health was restored from decades of abuse.

I think it'll be glaringly obvious just how limited the offense was after we see a few drives this year.
No, no, no… we were told repeatedly by many on here that there was absolutely nothing amiss - ‘member?

I think it was the WRs, or maybe the OL. Definitely wasn’t the guy at the controls.

Saw where Gerald Mincey was saying Kentucky's offense is more tempo than the Vols. 😅😂🤣

Also saw Beamer trying to say playing Old Dominion was like playing the Vols LOL

We must be back for these teams to have us on their mind... (we don't even play South Carolina this year)
There's a lot of angst among those teams because we were on their level or even worse for most of the past decade. Now we're ascending to the top of CFB and they're stuck in mediocrity.

Maybe faster than last year, we couldn't go fast with Milton.
In 2023, UT ran 71 plays per game (36 in CFB). The snap speed was 21.2 seconds per play (4 in CFB).

In 2022, UT ran just under 74 plays per game (34 in CFB). The snap speed was 20.2 (2 in CFB).

Not that different on the speed. The difference, I think, was our inability to hit big plays so the offense looked different while not actually being much slower.

Exactly my point.

They shouldn’t have made that decision.
Your opinion…theirs matter more. Retired numbers are an honor, not a sacred institution. Several Cowboy WR’s have worn 88 since Drew Pearson with his blessing…most recently Cee Dee Lamb. When Peyton signed with Denver back in 2012, his #18 had been retired since 1963 in honor of its first franchise QB…Frank Tripucka. He sought out permission from Tripucka and the old man gladly granted it. Anyone who knows about Peyton recognizes he’s practically an historical society who honors traditions. Your earlier comment about Flaherty’s grandchildren banking from their permission is ridiculous. This isn’t one player on a roster buying his accustomed number from another. This is respect. Few remembered Tripucka for his football achievements (tho he was the first 3000 yard passer), but Peyton doesn’t wear that number in a Broncos uniform without his approval. Nabers did it the right way and that family handled it with class.

Yeah what Milton at QB did was mostly removed big plays.

2023 we averaged 6.5 yards per play we actually ran 69.2 counting bowl game
2022 we averaged 7.2 yards per play while running 72.7 plays per game

Doesn't seem like a lot, 0.7 yards per play... but when you add in that you're also getting 3 more plays a game that's a pretty big difference. 450 yards game compared to 525 yards a game

But the completion % dropping from 68.7% in 2022 to just 63.9% in 2023 was the biggest factor imo for stalling. We became more one dimensional/predictable with Joe. Wasn't as accurate, didn't hit as many deep balls and ultimately we leaned on the running game a lot more and the RBs had to carry more of the workload cause Joe also rarely kept in RPOs.

Yeah, I think some of it was optics, it looks quicker when your receiver jumps up, delivers the ball to the ref and rushes to line up. Also thought the new OC was slower deciding and triggering the call. Lots of Joe locked in on the sideline shots. Bet that improves, regardless of QB this year.

Also think we will be set faster, forcing the defense to remain as is, even when play is set and we are running clock CJH style.

Which one of you are going to be our Stallions at the NC State game?
We're all pretty good at knowing which camouflage works the best from our copperhead spotting expeditions of the last year or so, but I think we need someone who is a good hunter/fisherman. Who is our best outdoor sportsman? (I'm assuming you are near the top of the list) We should have them assemble a team to do it. . . I'm not sure there is enough time though, we should've been working on this since spring practice. . . I blame @Glitch .
