Recruiting Discussion

I'm not on the Barnes bashing wagon.

You don't allow discussion that doesn't involve coach worship.

I forgot the part where we held a spot for the porters and focused all our "efforts" on them. I also forgot when Missouri was in the state of Tennessee. I also forgot when Memphis hired Simons dad as an assistant coach. So yeah, it's not the same.

Like I said, guess Cal will be embarrassed too.

I’m all for having a discussion if you want, but saying something like this is gonna be embarrassing doesn’t exactly make it look like you’re trying to have a level conversation...it would certainly appear to be an attempt to bash as most here agree.

In the post above you mention how all our efforts are on Simons, perfect example of you disregarding facts to support your stance...Tennessee has been involved with Harris now for months, so all their efforts aren’t on Simons but acting as if they were makes it seemingly so much more “embarrassing”.

Like you’ve told Bruin, when everyone else is wrong and you’re right that might be a sign...everyone is saying you’ve got an negative tinge to the things you say, it’s very unlikely we are all making this up. You wanted to claim how I couldn’t admit we squandered an opportunity to support your stance that I’m a blind supporter, yet in reality I posted just that. Maybe you do it unintentionally but you have a habit of disregarding facts that would go against your stance, and pretending people didn’t say things that they did indeed say.

Bruin, you and Chris does not equal most. There's plenty of people saying negative things right now.

As far as recruiting goes, we still are missing the mark there. You can say whatever you want. It's beyond frustrating and we still have no one committed or even close to committing.

You saying it was a tough loss but at the same time want to pump up Loyola. It was an awful loss.

Everything isn't sunshine and rainbows. Anytime I say something that isn't in full support of Barnes I am labeled a basher.

What exactly have I said that is so bad?

I just laid it out for you, you don’t come out and say “Barnes sucks”, but almost everything you say has that tone to it...

- “All our efforts have been on Simons, would be embarrassing to lose him”...actually we’ve moved our focus on to Harris which you are well aware of as you’ve commented on it but for some reason disregard it in your post?

- “Loyola was a gift for Tennessee, we should’ve beaten them by 15+”...actually many questioned which would be the better matchup, Loyola or Miami. While many said Loyola, nobody with any BBIQ or any metric or Las Vegas said this should be a 15+pt win.

-“You’re such a coach supporter that you can’t even admit we missed an opportunity”...actually I said exactly that, I stated that this one was going to hurt for awhile and that we missed a great chance.

The list goes on and on, but those are the 3 most recent examples that come to mind...again if it was something that had only happened once or twice then maybe it’s an oversight on your part, but Chris has called you on it multiple times as well. You have a habit of avoiding facts such as Harris that don’t support your stance, or claiming people haven’t said something when they clearly did because it also doesn’t support your stance...like I said, a lot of your posts contain a negative tone to them that I’m definitely not the only one to mention.

I guess I could have worded it better. He's the only guy still considering us from what I gather. We were third for Harris and that was before Memphis fired Tubby. So yeah, not a lot going on there with Harris.

We should have won that game. It was a terrible loss. You can nit pick at saying 15+ points or whatever you want to say but fact is that we were a lot better than them.

You did. But then when people talk about it being a missed opportunity you want to tell them how good Loyola was.

It's really not any different than it was before and during the season. I say things that aren't all sunshine and rainbows and people blow up about them.

Recruiting is a legit concern.

Barnes post season struggles are a legit concern.

Losing to an 11 seed as a 3 seed is a bad loss.

All those things are valid statements and some posters don't like hearing them. I have said them. If it makes me a basher so be it.

What is unfortunate is that you are calling my post "way overboard with hyperbole."

On one hand you claim to not necessarily expect us to pull in 5* talent, and on the other hand, you call it a disappointment that we aren't likely going to land a 5* talent.

Everything is black and white to you as it relates to Barnes. You make no bones about it, that you didn't like the hire. You did all you could to continue not liking him, criticizing his every move, until he essentially gave you no choice but to offer fain support, and at the first sign of struggle, you passive-aggressively drop a turd in the punch bowl. And I don't even know if you realize how negative you come across with regards to it.

And even now, your defense is that you aren't the only one criticizing him. Yet, 95% of the people criticizing him, aside from yourself, are drive-by posters who wouldn't know a basketball from hockey puck, so that isn't exactly sound reasoning.

Not sure where you get 3rd for Harris before Penny?? Maybe they trailed Baylor but imo that has more to do with Tennessee not turning up the heat yet and having him OV as staff has been prepping for NCAAT while Baylor and Mississippi State staffs haven’t been...vibe I got was Tennessee is a very serious player still and could surpass Baylor, Memphis is the wild card.

Your join date is 2009 so I can’t go back and look, but I’m guessing you weren’t whining about Pearl losing as a 2 seed to Wichita State and blowing that opportunity, just a hunch.

Yeah 53 whole minutes ago.

Like I said, everything is black and white with you. It was only rumored for a couple weeks and the press conference was scheduled yesterday, but we'll just keep pretending like everyone was totally in the dark until 53 whole minutes ago.

I didn't drop a turd in the punch bowl. The vols did.

It would be disappointing because we've been pretty much the only school he's been really involved with besides NC State and all signs pointed to the NBA with us as the fall back option. It would royally suck to see him put the NBA on hold then choose our instate rival who hired a first time head coach today.

Sugar coat all you want.

And losing Simons isn't the end of the world but acting like it isn't a negative turn of events is just plain silly and refusing to acknowledge our shortcomings.

Penny Hardaway was hired for his ability to recruit. Ive seen several places say he needed a strong x's and o's assistant coach to offset his weakness at it.

They knew he'd be able to land these kids or they wouldn't have hired him.

Sure, it would be disappointing.
Not sure anyone would disagree.

Disappointing doesn't equate to embarrassing (your word).

You said yourself, very recently, we weren't getting Simons. So, who cares the reasons why? NBA, Memphis, NCSU...who cares?

Not getting him is not getting him, as far as I'm concerned. It isn't a negative turn of events if we didn't expected to land him anyway. It sucks, but the idea of him not playing guard for the University of Tennessee in 2018-19 isn't completely unexpected.

Some players still out there...
PG:
Courtney Ramey
James Akinjo
Tyler Harris

CG:
Anfernee Simons
Myreon Jones

Tennessee seems to be looking for a guard...obviously Simons and Harris are well known on this board, but the other guys...

Courtney Ramey was a Louisville commit, but left after that scandal, seems pretty open and has been some talk Tennessee evaluated him a couple weeks ago.

James Akinjo was a UCONN commit, he has re-opened after the coaching change, he lives in California so may be tough but if he was willing to go to Connecticut who knows.

Myreon Jones was a Memphis commit under Tubby Smith, he has re-opened his commitment...to me this one makes a lot of sense. Known as a guy who loves defense, he’s from Alabama but the instate schools haven’t prioritized him, think this could be a guy to watch who would be a great addition.
