Memphis 247 putting out the information today that Tyler Harris will not be going to Memphis...Baylor, Mississippi State and Tennessee are pursuing him the hardest and have the best chances of landing him barring a coaching change in Memphis which is unlikely.

Interesting....

Don't believe everything you read on 247..

Hard to imagine the Memphis guys are going to make up information that he isn’t going to Memphis...they’re all homers over there so if they’re saying he’s not staying home to play I believe it. It also jives with what Rob Lewis of VQ has been saying in that if Tubby is coach at Memphis it’s highly unlikely Tyler Harris is a Tiger.

I'm not saying he's going there. But from what I've been told they're definitely still in the running.

I’m sure like many Memphis kids do that don’t go to Memphis they don’t rule it out because their final few months there would be awful...but from everything I have read and heard from multiple different people if Tubby is there Harris is not.

Also per Meyer and Ramey on 247 we are pursuing Khavon Moore really hard and an OV for him is very likely.

I had wondered there. Hadn't heard much about him lately. I just assumed we had moved on.

He was set to commit back in February and broke his leg, kind of hit the pause button on his recruitment but now has picked it back up. He has 4/5 OV’s scheduled with Tennessee and a few others mentioned as possible destinations for a 5th, but it definitely feels like Vols have moved on there.

Bleed - were you a Vol fan when Tony Harris was here?

Edit: you were probably pretty young even if you were living in Tennessee by that point.

Man he was awesome. Iverson like quickness. Makes me want the Harris kid even though I know these legacy kids almost never end up the same player as the original. That could be a good thing for Harris though. Tony could have been so much better.

No, and I’ve been meaning to ask about him. I know he was a heckuva player, but have also saw some things mentioned sounding like attitude problems etc....has he been around Knoxville or Tennessee at all in recent years?

I had heard it on a recruiting podcast. Let me see if I can locate it. Not that it bears any weight whatsoever but we are now listed as warm on 247 and not cool anymore so theres that.

Moore did an interview with rivals yesterday and has 4 OV’s lined up...mentioned a few schools with Tennessee being 1 of those as possible spots for his 5th OV but was unsure if he would even take it. Then today Rob Lewis of VQ says Tennessee hasn’t been recruiting him lately and they’ve moved on from him, so with those 2 together I don’t see much going on there.

There was an article about him a while back where he kinda admitted he had a bad attitude.

Here's a couple videos. Not sure what kinda game he had in these.

That first video was one of the most painful losses of my vol life.

My question with the attitude is how does it relate to Tyler, not to judge a book but he’s from Memphis and a lot of those kids have that reputation, add in his uncle had attitude issues and it just made me wonder. Obviously if Barnes is willing to recruit him then he sees it as a non-problem or fixable, but Mississippi State and Baylor definitely have a rep of having those kinds of kids so that also made me ask.

On a side note...I asked about Tony’s standing with UT because how cool would it be to bring Tyler in on an OV for the Georgia game and during halftime honor his uncle Tony at mid-court and with a highlight video?

I would love to see a Tony Harris highlight video.

He drilled some 3's right in people's eyes back in the day.

I think he is in good standing with the Vols. There's an article from the Pearl era about him.

Well as great as the UT PR team is (blue font), I’m sure that’s something they’d do.

Harris wasn't interested in putting in the work to be great, and was possibly more interested in his street cred. Also had a couple run-ins with UT Police that weren't highly publicized, probably due to a lack of social media and the internet being in its infancy.
He was a tremendous talent, and he has since straightened his personal life out. Dude was a legend in Memphis high school ball at East.

I want to say that he recently finished up his degree at UT.

Not sure what you mean by that but Tony Harris was miles better than Bone.

I don't agree with miles better. Both had great first steps and could get into the lane with ease. I just think Barnes keeps us from seeing Bones talents on display. Not saying it isn't for the better of the team but I think Bone would dazzle us with his quickness into the lane in a more free style of play.

Or a roll the ball out and let em go like Jerry had
