Could be a case where he “walks-on”....not sure how that works but I seem to recall coaches kids getting free tuition to the school.

I believe state employee children get 25% off and university employee children get 50% off. At least I'm pretty sure that's how it was 10 years ago

Something worth noting...

Webb School in Knoxville has a 2020 Top 100 player in Keon Jonhson, he also plays AAU ball for former Vol Mark Griffin, per VQ he’s expected to UOV for today’s game. Also on that’s Webb School team is 2020 Emory Lanier, assistant coach Rob Lanier’s son...obviously that’s a little ways off from now, but it will come sooner than many you think, Vols could have a nice set up with 2 of the better prospects in Tennessee both attending the same school and in Knoxville.

Oliver was in middle tenn to see him play this week

Lanier will not take up a scholarship.

I have no idea how good he is but getting 50% of tuition paid for leaves a bunch Left to pay . Really only pays roughly 1/4 of what a scholarship player would receive.

If it's full tuition, which I don't think it is unless a coach has been at a school for many years, that still only pays about half

My guess is pops would get a nice $25k/year raise to cover the difference.

Drop in the hat. He ain't going on scholarship unless he's a top-100 type player. In which case, you're fine with it.

I watched Keon Johnson play for Webb School Bell Buckle a few weeks ago when they played PCA out of Murfreesboro. I had heard about him but didn't realize he was ranked that highly. They are class A schools so the competition level has to be taken into account but Keon was impressive. He looked about 6'5 and played on the perimeter. Very athletic and quick and pretty strong for a high schooler. He shot and made at least one three that I remember but his stroke didn't look great to me. I don't think he is a kid that would come in and dominate as a freshman but could end up developing like a Josh Richardson in a best case scenario.

If he was playing the post he'd sound a lot like Robert Hubbs, III.

Can we recruit Wheza Panzo just for his name? He's an instate 3* player from Chatty.

Rivals.com

Also, BTO or anyone who may know.... did rivals recently update the 150 for 2019? I see where using the search tool Chandler Lawson shows as ranked 21 in the country but when I look at the rivals 150 he is 49. It's kinda odd cause he's still ranked as a 5* but he's a 4*.

Are we not gonna recruit any of the memphis kids in 2019? Just wondering.

It doesn’t appear so...I wouldn’t touch Lawson with a 10’ pole, we’ve been recruiting Wiseman for years but I doubt he gives us a serious look.

Pretty funny stuff...Basilio who’s been the biggest Barnes’ bashed until 2 months ago and definitely biggest critic on his recruiting had Jerry Meyer (national scout for 247) on today. He’s had Jerry on a lot in the past and the 2 have had many laughs at Barnes recruiting and Jerry had even said in the past “I don’t have a clue what those guys are doing over there”...well today very different tune, Jerry saying he didn’t know what they were doing because they were so quiet, but that they were finding guys they didn’t want other schools to know abou basically. Said they don’t value toughness enough in the recruiting industry, and hard to know which guys are gonna compete and be coachable. Said he loved Tennessee’s 3* our roughing the 5* at Kentucky.

You remember what hour? I may check it out tomorrow.

They are aware. That program is loaded with D1 talent and that's after they lost a few guys who went to prep schools. A few sophomores and freshman that are great too.

Update on this, looks like we attended one of their practices.

Memphis 247 putting out the information today that Tyler Harris will not be going to Memphis...Baylor, Mississippi State and Tennessee are pursuing him the hardest and have the best chances of landing him barring a coaching change in Memphis which is unlikely.
