It’s not meant as a shot at the team or Barnes. We really need just another difference maker or two. He’s got this team closer to busting through than I thought he would. Complete collapse down the stretch today though.

None of this is worshipping, it’s facts...we led 38/40 minutes against UNC, so clearly we had enough talent to beat them, obviously we didn’t win and that needs to be discussed, but to say we don’t have the talent to win that kinda game is false imo.

Hell we beat Purdue who’s a Top 15 team, UNC is barely Top 10, not much disparity...just don’t get that stance.

I think we need more talent.

Butch almost beat Saban in 2015. Did he have the talent to win the game? Yes. What was the difference in the game though? Talent.

Did he lead for 55/60 minutes?

Did he also beat another Top 15 team that same season?

Apples to oranges.

Could the team use more talent? Absolutely. Do I think they need more talent in order to be a tournament team? No I do not.

I do think we have a composure issue against the better teams, but it isn't half as bad as last year. Hopefully, by the end of the year, we will be on the positive side of that issue.

Experience matters.

Okay and if we want to compete for higher than just making the tournament, then we need more talent/scorers. That is Ziti’s point.

The team is good and Barnes has done a great job. They are most likely gonna make the tourney and that’s very good. But if we want to do more than that, we need more scoring for the guard positions. A guy like Simons brings that.

Haha people are so impatient. Barnes came in to a rebuild and he is doing just that spectacularly. When you are building a program you can take the Villanova/UNC/MichSt rought who rely heavily great player development and player evaluation, or you can take the Kentucky/Duke rought which is very tough because you have to recruit at an elite level every year. Barnes has picked guys that fit his system but our guards are young. Villanova and UNC are both loaded with Junior and Senior guards. We lose our composure and do not execute late because of that, but I believe in our player development and we will get better at that as the year goes on and into next year.

And that’s what I was asking Ziti, more talent to do what? He never answered.

If this team finishes the year ranked, finishes top 5 in SEC, get some a 5 seed and makes the Sweet 16...do they need more talent? I’m not saying I wouldn’t want more talent, but would it be needed?

We had this discussion preseason and iirc you said something to the extent of “if they make the tournament easily then they have enough talent”, has that bar now moved?

In other words, what would need to happen for at the end of the year you to say, I’m happy with the roster assembled? Just because you lose a game or don’t win it all doesn’t mean you lack talent, very rarely is the national champ the most talented team.

BTO - please for just one second try and stop defending CRB. You never get out of that mode once you have decided you like the coach. You didn't with Cuonzo and you're doing the same thing here with CRB.

I'm not disappointed with this team whatsoever. We still don't have the talent we could have on this roster and that needs to change going forward. It looks like Barnes agrees with me based on his sudden interest in more highly rated players.

I don't know why we can't watch this team, realize they are playing well and still say "hey we need a couple more ballers."
