Recruiting Discussion

Same types of things were said at Kasongo, no? And if he's averaging 11&6 in JUCO, that would probably translate to something like 8&4 or 9&5. At that point its worth saving a scholarship.

If he isn't dominating for minutes in JUCO, its hard to see he'd beat out our roster for minutes.

I'm not looking for every little thing to criticize the big men we're recruiting, but it doesn't seem like we're targetting quality big men. (Other than Yurtseven). We need a dominant defensive big man, or an offensive big man. Not these random guys who can't even average a double-double in JUCO.

At this point I think you're looking at it wrong, we are discussing this on the premise we are losing Kasongo, is this guy worse than Kasongo? I don't think so, the numbers don't support that, nether do the recruiting ranks. Has the guy dominated at JUCO, no he hasn't, but that's a product of that school. Akolda Manyang who is now at Oklahoma was the #1JC player, he averaged 15mpg at Indian Hills, just to put it into perspective a little. They have 8 guys who average between 18-22mpg, nobody plays more than that, they play extremely uptempo and because of that play 9-10 guys nearly equal minutes.

Got a list?

That's what makes me think 2 departures is likely, I don't see Barnes filling up the roster with Bowden and Holt and shutting things down in the next 2 weeks. I would think they're gonna want an answer from Yurtseven and look at the grad transfer market, that timeframe is around May, which they can't hold Holt & Bowden off until...JMO

A kid I hope Barnes goes after for 2018 is Romeo Langford. He plays in a city over from me (New Albany) and is the best player I've seen and only a sophomore. 4th already in the school's history and New Albany has a long history with good players.

Kid can do it all. 6'4-6'5 and probably isn't done growing. Can run the point and get in and rebound with the best.

He's in the top 10-20 on some recruiting sites for his class already. 5 star talent.

If they came available Blossomgame and White would be an instant front court.

We need to stop with the JUCO's and focus on the grad transfers.

I believe the NCAA is going to change the rules regarding grad transfers. There's some talk about making them sit a year if they transfer to continue their education. I remember reading this somewhere recently.

Tee Higgins picked up a basketball offer from Louisville the other day, if Buctch & Barnes can land him that would be a big addition to both teams, obviously in this forum we're excited about the basketball side.

In what's expected to be a small class, landing a guy of his talent that won't count against our scholarship situation would be an absolute best case scenario.

The possibility still looms that Stokes could do the same thing, although I'm a little less optimistic on that one. If he ends up playing football he likely becomes a 6'8" 270-290lb guy, while he is obviously a great athlete, I see Higgins as being able to switch back and forth much easier than Stokes likely would be able to at his size. With that said, he would obviously add some serious low post size to the roster in '17, and given that he also wouldn't take up a scholarship it is an absolute win/win for Barnes if it happened.

In an interview with Grant Ramey Barnes said they are recruiting knowing they have scholarships available, said they expect to add a guard/wing and a post player. He went on to talk about the need in the post and mentioned by name Grant Williams, John Fulkerson, Kyle Alexander and Admiral Schofield...didn't say one word about Kasongo. I know most have already assumed he's leaving, but just figured I would share.

Sounds like it's Bowden as the guard/wing, and then exploring their options still with post players.

Hopefully Bowden commits soon.

Im hoping they go grad transfer at post. A guy like Reynolds would be a great pick up or the carter guy from Maryland.

Surely this has to be an attractive landing spot for a Grad big.Top facilities, early playing time,Power 5 conference and Barnes's track record.

Agree about Bowden being the Gaurd/Wing. He'll be a good one too, because he is super athletic and a good 3 point shooter.

My question is, other than yurtseven, who is the big we're going after the hardest BTO? Because I know Yurtseven will be a hard pull, so who are our other options that you think we have a good chance at?

They're pursuing Emmit Holt right now pretty aggressively, think they're likely doing a lot of homework behind the scenes on possible grad transfers who have yet to announce.
