Recruiting Discussion

Not hard at allow, however I thought you were familiar with the fact acholarships are year to year and that almost all teams have attrition, McGhee is proof of that already this year.

Again, if Alexander and Kasongo prove to be quality big men, and Fulkerson adds some good weight, you've got 5 scholarship players who can play at the 4/5 positions. You do realize Armani Moore is 6'4", right? And that's he's played the 3/4/5 positions? We lose 6'7" Reese and 6'4" Moore, and add 6'9" Fulkerson and 6'7" Williams, it seems pretty clear to me we are adding size to next years team already, not sure why that's so hard to follow.

I hate myself for getting pulled into one of these discussions, but adding Fulkerson and Williams isn't "adding size in the post". They may turn out to be quality players, but they are no more size than we currently have and that is surely not enough to be competitive.

Really, that is quite simply just not true. Fulkerson and Williams aren't combined taller than Moore and Reese combined? You're either lying or uninformed, not sure which, because typically you're pretty educated on recruits.

Fulkerson has been listed anywhere from 6'8"-6'9", nobody has once mentioned he'll grow to 6'11" except for you, of course him being 6'8"-6'9" doesn't fit your narrative so you'd prefer not to believe it.

If Barnes can win 16-17 games this year with a frontline going 6'4" & 6'7" why can't he win more games than that with a frontline going 6'8" & 6'9"? Your aguement makes very little sense, as I pointed out, next years team will be taller than this years team, so.....

I guess we like using size as an excuse then.

IMO with one and only one spot available at the moment for next year it needs to be a big

Seems logical to me but then again you didn't want a guy that is putting on a scoring show at houston now so I guess anything is possible

Lol

BTO posted a few weeks ago fulk was 6'7 because he didn't like my post about him possibly having to play the 5. Now that side of the fence doesn't fit so He's growing like a weed and 6'9

Honestly I've gotten into it with BTO in the past but you have to admire a guy like this.

The arguments are so funny. BTO is clearly doing this to get under the skin of others. So damn funny.

I've always been a guy who likes to stir the pot and I have to give it to you, BTO, this past week of material has been solid.

And you suggested Fulkerson and Williams weren't takes so I suppose anything is possible lulz

You're assuming no more attrition, have you spoken with Barnes, I haven't, is it not possible they know of someone who plans to leave at the end of the year? Grandstaff is going to decide his future in the next couple of weeks, they can't wait around until spring to add him, certainly you knew that though. So why not add him now, and if/when a spot comes open in April then you look for big man help since currently there isn't much out there?

Ideally this staff wants to add a grad transfer big, they like Alexander and Kasongo long term but know they could use the help, they also want that scholarship for '17 if possible I'm sure. Unfortunately you can't add a grad transfer in December, so we will have to wait until spring to see who would be available, I waiting to judge a decision isn't your thing but maybe you should attempt it in this case.

If you wanna criticize Barnes in May for adding just Grandstaff to the roster and not a big man that is fine, I may not agree, but I can at least see your case. However, b******g about it in December, which is when you have to take Grandstaff, seems beyond foolish to me. IMO you take the former top 50 recruit who's a knock down shooter, something this roster does not have, and you continue to evaluate your current roster and look at possible options in spring, but what do I know.

Is 6'7" and 6'6" not taller than 6'7" and 6'4"? I'm aware you're no rocket science but that seems like basic arithmetic to me.

Regardless idc if we have all 6'5 guards. When a shooter is available you take them. We need shooters just as bad as post players. I think the staff has higher hopes for Alexander and Kasongo than must of us. I'm hoping we add a nice 4 or 5 star post in 2017. That dude from Atlanta I forget his name, would be a perfect fit for what I'm talking about.

Waste a scholarship? Not sure that's what I would call landing a former top 50 recruit, but if you say so. Fwiw it also to me seems like this staff isn't interested in adding a developing high school big to this class, such as Fernando or someone like that. You've got Alexander who's a freshman and Kasongo just a sophomore, I see it as more of a waste to bring in a similar type of player (not saying Fernando is) to those 2 guys, than bringing in a guy who would bring a skill set nobody on the projected roster possesses.

We need bigs desperately. Not another 6'5 tweener

College basketball is becoming more and more guard oriented. Grandstaff is a straight up, cold blooded scorer, shooter. They are few and far between. CRB would be crazy not to go after him, especially with the Texas connection. It does not matter about needs, you cannot pass on a scorer like Grandstaff.
The concern with Grandstaff is his dad. They are leaving Oh State over playing time and the fact Coach Motta pulled him after he took a bad shot.

He is no tweener. He is a prolific scorer.

Yes he is considered a tweener. Guard to Forward. He isn't just a one position guy. But he isn't 6'10 to 7'0 bruising rebounding center either. Scorer or not. If we get out rebounded by double digits every night. What does it matter.

He is a scoring guard with a good handle. He is not a forward. He is better than we have had in a while at UT. You can't pass on elite scorers. You can pass if you think he and his dad are a problem to team chemistry. I know you think we need rebounders and we do, but you can't pass on elite scorers in today's game.

I just watched the video links of him. Your correct. Boy can fill it up. He would make a great 2 or 3.

Big concern with Grandstaff is attitude and dad. Otherwise he is a take.

Don't care about dad but do care about a kid leaving when he was playing quiet a bit.

He was playing double digit minutes and had the 2nd most 3pt attempts on the team. He was playing significantly for a freshman. Red flag to me if he left on his own due to playing time
