Recruiting Discussion

What part is a break? They would've identified and land led bone, Johnson, fulk and Fernando...and with Parker for all we know they've been on him for awhile and have convinced him to look around. Not saying that's the case, but calling it a break similar to how people consider Stokes a break seems foolish IMO
Well, stokes was a break. But this is a break in that we get a second chance with him.

Right, but if it's a second chance we created I don't see it as a break, that's simply recruiting. Now if he had signed, and there was a coaching change and so he got a release and THAT gave us a second chance at him, I would agree it was a break.

This is Tennessee, you can never have enough PG's. We haven't had one in years. It would be nice to have 3 that could play the postion.

Oh I agree, just wish they were spaced out more in terms of class (FR, FR, rFR). If one is converted to mainly a SG, then no problem.

Fair enough. Probably could've used a better word.

I don't think Dallas meant "break" in the sense you think he did. Poor wording on his part. "Fortunate" is probably a better word.

Idk, and I'll still take the kid, but I'm just going off 5 spots, if we've got a shot at Parker I would prefer him to Williams. According to VQ he was going to meet with mom this past weekend, however Rob Lewis said today he's been unable to get ahold of Williams th past few days.

Thanks for the info.

All along I have said we wouldn't take fulk, Johnson, and Williams. I stand by that but won't be shocked if I am wrong

Per Vq...

(Summary)...Tennessee is in good shape to land Fulkerson, he hasn't contacted either staff yet, but Fulkerson snuck it for an unofficial visit this weekend and watched the Vols beat Davidson. The Vols also are in good shape with Grant Williams who is set to announce next Friday, again the staff hasn't been contacted, but unless mom has a change of heart he's a Vol. The staff is trying to get Kwe Parker in next weekend for an official visit, but nothing set in stone yet. It's unclear if he will sign in November or the spring, risky by bringing him in next weekend if he holds off til spring, but they appear to be going all in on that one. Parker and Johnson are both teammates and friends, but they aren't a package deal and it's no lock Parker will look to simply follow Johnson to Knoxville.

Disappointed to hear that about Williams. Don't understand why he is a take and Blackwell wasn't.

Disappointed to hear parker isn't coming this weekend. BO has popped in a few times lately with some info and hasn't been correct(not an attack on BO just a fact). My thinking the staff was behind the decommitment doesn't seem as strong now. If he comes next weekend that still keeps that hope alive.

For some reason I thought the Davidson game was there. That was wrong?

BO has popped in a few times lately with some info and hasn't been correct. He had me thinking the staff was behind the decommitment.

This was BO's exact quote...

"Okay so here is what I have heard. Credit Des Oliver for staying on this kid hard. Look for him to Ov this weekend as Vq has stated. Also staff really thinks that they have a shot at him committing this weekend on his Ov."

He never explicitly, or even implicitly really, states that we were behind the decommitment. Don't blame him for YOUR misinterpretation of that. The idea that we were behind it was an idea you proposed in another thread and you tried to take BO's comment and make it support your theory. And that may still turn out to be the case, but he never said that.

He was wrong about Okogie, but what else has he missed on? Don't come here pissing on free information (even if it is hearsay) and then start throwing around baseless accusations. He said this is what he had heard. He didn't say it was ironclad info. You, and you alone, are responsible for what you believe.

I wasnt attacking him at all. Sorry I came
Off that way. I edited

Yes I think we were behind the decommitment. If he visits either weekend that would add fuel to that. If he was
Coming this weekend like BO said that close to the Rutgers news we almost certainly were involved

May want to watch the recruitment of the two kids from Carter High School who graduated last spring.

Kelvin Jackson is at Walters State CC and Jordan Bowden is at 22 foot academy (prep).

Well I think you're talking about 2 completely different players in Blackwell and Williams. Yes Blackwell is 6-7, but I see him as being more of a gaurd oriented type player. Whereas you have Williams who like I have said before is an absolute bruiser. He's big,he's strong, and he has a Jerrone Maymon type build. May not have the ceiling of Maymon, but depending on development could be a pretty good post player. Blackwell on the other hand, while being super talented, is 6-7 about 190-200 pounds. He has gaurd skills, and is probably more like jalen Johnson(albeit a bit more highly touted)

Blackwell is nowhere near a guard type player. If you want to take an undersized PF then Blackwell is your guy. He is about 210 at least but his skill set doesn't extend beyond about 5 feet. If he had the offensive skills he would make a really good SF but they haven't developed in the 3 years I have watched him. Right now he is better than any kid we have committed but you just don't know how he will develop. I guess our staff just didn't feel he had enough upside.

Just in general because there local kids, or you've heard Tennessee is pursuing them?

A little tid-bit on Fernando

"Fernando said he’s being heavily recruited by Alabama, Auburn, Indiana, South Carolina, SMU, Tennessee and West Virginia. Fernando has yet to take a standardized test, so he hasn’t taken any official visits. He has, however, taken an unofficial visit to UCF. Look for Fernando to be one of the most heavily pursued post players in the spring."

Per VQ Kwe Parker is expected in this weekend for an official visit, also mentioned that Tennessee feels very good heading into Friday's announcement fo Grant Williams.

Great news on parker. I think we get that done but obviously with the other news my opinion isn't worth much.

Will welcome Williams but I am in germs corner on saving the spot.
