Recruiting Discussion

Wow really, happens every day in college basketball and football. If you're a year away from signing day, and the kid has plenty of options,

We are just over a year from signing day for 2017s.

Isn't that class we are talking about taking commitments and seeing how they develop before deciding if they make the cut or not?

I agree the timing is important for sure.

The practice doesn't happen very often at all in hoops.

FootbAll yes it does but it's still shameful IMO

It happens in basketball, obviously not as often as in football but that's simply because of number of players, lots of times it's just portrayed as the recruit decommiting, or isn't as publicized.

Early signing period, spring signing period is a year and ~6 months away

I still don't like it but if a coach drops a kid before the spring signing class of their junior year I don't have as much problem with that.

However I can't think of any of the kids that were dropped were done so that far out. It's almost always later in the process

A 2017 committed to providence just parted ways yesterday

Which side filed for divorce?

Impossible to know lots of times, that's what I said above, lots of times both sides even have cooled and it's mutual, or sometimes it's publicized as the athletes decision, it's not always clear. Regardless, there was a parting.

Agreed

My guess is for every kid dropped in their junior year there are 10 in the senior year.

Would love to know if that is accurate but regardless I am 100% against committing kids and then dropping them unless they do something off the court.

You said that "can always part with a kid if he's not signed." Turner hasn't signed, so that's why I got the feeling turner was the one you were talking about.

Turner is clearly going to be here in 16/17

But does CRB have a history of cleaning house when he takes over a job?

We have spent a great deal of time discussing 5spots and saving room for more elite players in 17 when in reality the current roster very well may turn over and significantly at that.

You don't recall the big worry on this board because how delayed his signing was? It was awhile after his commitment, but he had a ceremony and signed.

I do now that you mention it but It could have just been a financial agreement and not an nli.

Do you recall for sure?

Is nick rakocevic no longer on our radar? If we landed him and John Fulkerson I'd be very excited.

Dang, racist. hahaha nah I don't think so. Too many other quality schools had a head start on him. Imo

Too bad tho, cause I'm like you I'd have loved to see him in "the UT" orange.

Actuakly, Rakocevic is one of those kids who dropped pretty sharply over the summer. He's pretty much on par with Fulkerson and Williams. Different skill set, but not a 4 star any more.

But if we're basing his game off offer list, he's still somebody we should be happy to be able to get. And based on size alone he doesn't even come close to comparing to Williams. I'm not into based solely on the stock being up or down. He's visited UF, UCLA, Kansas and UVA. And holds offers from some strong schools too.(TeX UWVA I'll Ind Wisky. He'd be a nice get. Again jmo

The only official visit has been WVa. The others were unofficials last year or last Spring before his AAU performances. I'd bet he doesn't have a commitable offer from UF, UCLA Kansas or UVA since they haven't used an official on him.
