Length, IQ, loved his defense, he could rebound. So I guess you can say it's just based on a gut feeling cause I mainly based it on the way my gut felt when he left.

I honestly don't remember his stat lines, but then again I put more stock into intangibles than stats.

Intangibles might be wonderful except Thompson couldn't shoot and could not stay in front of PG's as he was too slow. They can hide a lot of that in Va's pedestrian paced style but Thompson couldn't even play PG against full court pressure in HS. When his team got pressed the other guard became their primary ballhandler. Juan Jennings was a better HS BB player.

For a 3* reshmen thrown often into the fire, he was pretty dang good and showed a lot of promise. Great passer, great court vision, great at jumping passing lanes and could run an offense. Stats weren't the best but he had a ton of potential.

Thompson showed some very good qualities of becoming a very solid Pg

Using the word stud to describe him is over the top.

He really didn't want to be here with CDT. He made a good decision for himself picking a system like UVA, but I'm not gonna lie. I'd love to have Thompson here now as a junior running the show.

OK, I apologize, stud was too much, but he had good potential, especially compared to the zero point guards we have on this team.

Josh Okogie, Grant Williams and Jordan Bone all expected in this weekend on unofficial visits.

In the 2017 class, 5* MJ Walker, 4* Rayshaun Hammonds, 4* Lavar Batts, 3* top 150 David Sloan, Lance Thomas and Peyton Broughton are all expected in.

In the 2018 class, three 4*'s are expected in: Darius Garland, Raechon Black and Drue Drinnon.

Now we're talking. Have to be a little more patient with a new coach in basketball recruiting. Kids are targeted years in advance and it's difficult to swoop in and land a bunch of kids in their final months before their decision.

2017 and 2018 classes will tell us if Barnes can still recruit. 2015 and 2016, the deck was stacked against him.

Yup. Hammonds is gonna be a big time target for them in the '17 class, as will Stokes, they're gonna put an emphasis on bigs in that class. They were very early on offering Hammonds, he actually attended their elite camp in June, along with Lance Thomas. I don't see the class being bigger than 3 at most, so identifying their 6-7 main targets in October of 2015 will hopefully benefit them.

Yep. Exactly the kind of prospects I expected Barnes and Lanier would be recruiting. Why you would load up the 2016 class and limit your ability to take more of these kids is beyond me.

Good news to see and yes please hold at least 1 extra spot

Unless the plan all along is to trim the roster


Anyone know if CRB has a history of that?

Batts and Sloan are both pgs. Could Tennessee possibly have 4 pgs on the roster in a couple of yrs??? I'd have to pitch myself.

So true. I'd rather have 4 guys with PG skills on the roster than 5-6 guys from 6-4 to 6-7 who don't have any true position.

Absolutely. And they could all see minutes, cause Turner and Batts will both be able to slide to the 2, on occasion. Imo

They obviously feel better about the potential of these guys than you do, that's clear, but I think it's also possible they knew/realized they needed stability and foundation. There is so much transferring doing on with top 100 recruits it's insane, most of those guys if they aren't playing a big role in year 1 then they want out. Look at that 2nd class that Pearl brought in, was ranked close to top 5, but only 1 guy iirc made it to year 3 in that class.

I'm not swearing that's the case here, but maybe the staff felt good about these guys, knows they're 3-4 year guys, and feels good about landing 2-3 higher rated prospects in the '17 class, and feel good about being able to hold on to 2-3 of those guys through their college careers, instead of trying to land 5 top 100 guys and losing 2 after 1 year? Just a thought.

It definitely would appear, at least early on, that they want to add a PG in the 2017 class. Not only are Batts and Sloan holding offers, but also Canadian PG Lindell Wigginton who's at Oak Hill Academy and thought to be a likely top 75 player in his class.

Barnes will play smaller guys at the 2 that can score, one of his best players AJ Abrams was about 5'9" and played a lot of 2 guard. I would love to see some of those fat paced, 4 guard lineups that you see Villanova play a lot of.

Interesting. Not to go all bruin on ya, but with the limited number of kids we can take in 17, I wonder if theyre all committable offers. Or does the staff have a favorite pg they want, and want to have an established relationship with 2 good backup plans.

I would say they feel like none of those guys are probably near a decision, I'm guessing if any of those 3 called they'd take a commitment though. You can always part ways with a guy if he's not signed, I would guess they'd take it this far out and see how he develops while still recruiting others. JMO, but I think Wigginton and Batts are probably higher on their board than Sloan.

Yuck. If A coach does this they deserve to have that bridge burned with the HS and AAU program IMO

Wow really, happens every day in college basketball and football. If you're a year away from signing day, and the kid has plenty of options, I don't have much problem with it. If the kid is signed like Martin did with Travon Landry and Pearl did with that kid his first year, then that's wrong IMO for sure.

I agree the timing is important for sure.

The practice doesn't happen very often at all in hoops.

FootbAll yes it does but it's still shameful IMO
