Recruiting Discussion

Lol, Armani posted a video on snap chat, there's some guy that dribbles off his foot. I think I may have a chance next year :)

Well, if they can get past my hairstyle(silver/white), I think I have a good shot at making it. Though I guess I will have to wait till next year now.

Bone, Okogie and Williams all are expected as unofficial visitors for this weekend, should be taken as a pretty good sign about where the Vols stand with Okogie and Williams.

There will also be quite a few underclassmen visiting per VQ as the staff looks to start zeroing in on some of their targets for the '17 class.

Also as has been mentioned, Barnes is scheduled to do an in home with Jalen Johnson on Thursday and per VQ the Vols are really pushing strong for a commitment there.

At this point, a class of Turner (by default), and Bone at PG, Okogie and Johnson at SG/SF, and Williams and Fulkerson in the post seems like about the best we can hope for unless a surprise like Fernando comes along.

Sounds very possible we are going to take those 5.

I hope we save 1 spot. Time will tell

It's a class that I think you hope sticks together and develops, the roster will need that "top 100" talent added to it, but I think you can build a solid foundation with a class like that.

Yeah, I didn't mean to insinuate it was garbage or anything. Not a stellar class, and no real eye-popping names, but with the disaster that has been the UT basketball program recently, it is a solid class. Next year, he needs to add some star power.

It would be pretty much the same type of class we have had ever since Pearl left. We are always in a position of hoping players are better than what most people think they are.

No I didn't take your post that way at all, was just talking, quoting your post probably was ill advised.

I agree with that, but it is nased on the premise that every coach since Pearl has come in following controversy, so in a sense, it was to be expected, though a sizeable portion of our fanbase hoped Barnes' name would recruit itself to an extent.

What we need is some stability and consistency, and no more controversy, be it NCAA related or otherwise. Classes like this are good for your program's stability and long-term goals, but you certainly can't have them every year, or you'll never be competitive. This is a solid base, but next year's class (2017) needs some star power to mix in as well. Michigan State, Wisconsin, Gonzaga, are all built like that. I'm not certain that Barnes is Izzo, Ryan, or Few as a coach, so we will see how it works for him.

I know pro prospects aren't everything, but - generally - you have to have one or two to make much noise in college basketball. Notice I said prospects, not players.

The last five years of recruiting have left us as six SEC schools without one player on this list of top 20 SEC pro basketball prospects. Heck, Vandy has 3 on the list. I've used the phrase before, but this roster is threadbare.

DraftExpress: Top NBA Prospects in the SEC, Part Ten: Prospects #15-20

You have to crawl before you can walk, but looking at the roster in place and the recruits coming, I'd say Kyle Alexander might be the best hope of putting someone on this list in the next two years, and that's just based on length and athleticism.

Isn't williams just another player in the Armani / Admiral mold? Don't get me wrong, I like those two guys, but I don't want a roster littered with hybrid players or tweeners or whatever they're called. We need to focus on getting true bigs, true wings, and a TRUE POINT.

Well armani is a senior, so he would be gone. As for your capitalized position of true point, Turner is on campus and Bone is committed, seems like the point guard position is in the best shape it's been in since I can remember.

That's OK if Armani is a senior, but I don't like the fact we keep bringing in undersized guys. When we play teams like UK, we just don't match up.

As for the caps on point, I know we have a bright future if we have bone and turner, but it's just frustrating that we have been playing with converted shooting guards and Moore (he played well enough, but that shouldn't have happened) for so long. I just don't see how we have not addressed this is earlier classes...well yes I do, but that's a whole different story and it just sucks.
