Gotcha.
I think what you mentioned with Punter and Baulkman is something that may become a big topic next season. IF those two don't improve and become the shooters/scorers that we need then will the question of CDT really developing players come out or will we just label them as busts? JMO.
Kyle Meyer should be high on this staffs list imo, 6'10" 225lbs, and a 38% shooter from 3, very similar to the big white guy from Vandy last night that can bang inside and stretch the defense as well. He's on their radar but hasn't seemed very high, that should change IMO.
I would also to a lesser extent even consider Brandon Walters from Walter State, he's definitely a big guy, in the 6'10" 285lbs range, but he's averaging 14ppg 8rpg and shooting 50% from 3...if he has continued to make a commitment to improving his conditioning I wouldn't be opposed to him getting a look as a late fall back.
I hope Punter improves on his game but how would he be considered a bust....He is avg double figures and been a decent player for us.
I know you're giddy for all things orange, and have probably the most orange tinted glasses of us all, but typically your NCAA champion teams aren't chock full of a bunch of 3*. Would it be awesome to prove everyone wrong, absolutely, but one thing I've learned over the years of watching CBB and rooting for Tennessee is don't expect firsts for things and miracles, the laws of average tend to work out, meaning if that squad is gonna win a national championship there is going to have to be some star power added to it IMO
Good, insightful information. Thanks!Current avg star rating per player of the last 6 NC's per verbalcommits.com. Obviously, the historical rating is not going to be exactly the same as today, but this, I think, gives a reasonable idea of what it takes to compete consistently at a national level. Vols really need to get some star power players, otherwise, they're depending on the exception not the rule. A notable exception is Wichita at 2.571, but Greg Marshall has a long history of fielding overachieving teams, and verbalcommits tends to underrate teams that use a lot of JUCO's because they typically use a player's high school rating rather than his rating out of JUCO.
Uconn 3.292 (2)
Lou 3.736
Ken 4.308
Duke 4.333
UNC 4.028
Vols 2.708 (11th in SEC)

Don't count Tennessee out for possibly landing Braxton Blackwell or Abdul Ado. If we can land at least one of those guys it'd be huge for next season. Ado is close to 7' and Blackwell is a 6'8" wing who is a great talent. Also I'd like to add that Ado has had two unofficial visits to Tennessee already, so why would he visit Tennessee unofficially if he wasn't seriously interested? I think there is real interest from Ado. Blackwell on the other hand is very interesting. We were one of his first offers, and his one of his best friends(Braxton Bonds) is already on the team. They both went to CPA together. Some great reasons for interest from both Ado and Blackwell, so don't count us out for those guys. Would be huge to get one of these guys at least!
Watched sophomore pg Chase Hayden, Aaron's Son, in the Class II-A tournament on Saturday. He scored 27 pts. and was named MVP of the tourney. His Dad was interviewed and said that Chase's decision will be his own as to his future after hs. He has been offered by Butch and was at Junior Day, even though he is a soph. Aaron said that he, personally, likes Butch and what he is doing at UT. Hopefully, one day Chase will be playing either fb or bb at UT. I believe he will get many offers for both sports between now and then.
I watched some of his video on youtube the other day. He looks to have a lot of game. In his football recruiting thread I asked if he inteads to play both sports in college but never saw an answer. Do you know if he plans on playing both?
A lot of recruits want to go to the schools to see their basketball and athletics facilities, but Im more of an education person, so I just want to see how the school and education (aspects are), Ado told The Courier-Journal in July. I know for sure with the basketball facilities, they have everything a basketball player should need.
