Tennessee has offered 7-0, 332-pound Juco Adonis Delarosa who originally signed with St John's out of High School
Good article about him when he originally signed with St. Johns as a freshmen. Says he still struggled to stay conditioned under his coach. But hey, maybe Barnes is a miracle worker?

De La Rosa is 9th in minutes played for WSC but 1st in turnovers, averaging a TO every 3.6 minutes. He has the same number of TOs as field goals (40).

IMO, that's a bigger red flag than his weight.

2017 Offer List:

#11 Ikechukwu Obiagu
#24 MJ Walker
#36 Devonte Shuler
#46 Alex Reese
#61 Lindell Wigginton
#65 Rayshaun Hammonds
#88 Victor Uyaelumno
#114 Andre Rafus
#123 Lavar Batts
#130 Tyler Polley
#131 Ibrahim Doumbia
#133 Nicholas Claxton
#134 Zach Kent
#137 David Sloan
#146 Wyatt Wilkes
#156 Isaiah Stokes
NR Victor Enoh

Vols offered Victor Enoh (teammate of Ikey Obiagu) sometime again, wasn't sure if he had an offer or not, but VQ confirmed it.

Recent post about Enoh:
Victor Enoh had record 23 rebs. Has Memphis, K.St., Tenn. offers. WF, UGA, Bama, UVA, VT, Xavier, LSU, FSU interest

Vols seem to be targeting strongly: Obiagu, Walker, Wigginton, Hammonds and Uyaelumno early from what I've seen.

As for the 2016 class, as was discussed on the board last week, Lanier was in the Dakotas to see juco big man Adonis Delarosa (6-11, 300). Lanier evaluated him last week and the Vols immediately offered, which more than strongly suggests that he’s prospect they wouldn’t mind closing out the 2016 class with.

In addition to being a player that would address this team’s desperate need for size, he’s also the ideal junior college prospect in terms of eligibility. He signed with St. Johns in 2014 but redshirted as a freshman and then transferred after the coaching change there. As a result, he’s not only already been an NCAA qualifier (which is huge), but he will have three years of eligibility left.

Would love to see some recent pictures or updates on Adonis, if he is indeed down to 300lbs it means he's obviously shown a commitment to improving his body and conditioning. If he can come in at 285-290, and work the off season to get to 260-265, then this offer makes sense, especially if Kasongo is out the door as recent games would suggest. Bower's from Auburn is a similar build, actually quite a bit shorter than Adonis, and he is a 12/10 a night guy.

It's worth noting too IMO that Barnes recruited Dexter Pittman to Texas, who was a 6'11" 350lbsish freshman when he stepped on campus. Barnes helped get him into shape, and while he never quite got down to where he could be a 30mpg guy, he was a 10/6 guy in 20mpg and was drafted into the NBA, so Barnes does have a little bit of a history with some of these BIG guys.

Video from a speech of his, recently. Apparently he also does motivational stuff.

How many guards does a team with a lack of size need

We complain and lament a lack of PGs...then we whine about recruiting too many PGs.

You have to plan as if two of Turner, Bone, or Parker don't pan out as a PG, transfer, get in trouble, flunk out, etc. You never rest on your laurels just because a situation looks plum in the present when it comes to recruiting.

I don't think you can have too many PGs or Centers. In today's world, putting two guys with PG game on the floor at the same time gives you a tremendous advantage. Most C's can be serviceable at PF. What winds up happening is that schools get overloaded with 6-5 to 6-7 guys who either (a) don't have the skills to be the guards they want to be or (b) aren't big enough to be the posts which their skill levels would dictate. That's what has happened at Tennessee over the years - and yes the Pearl years, too. He was just recruiting higher level players so that overcame the problems to some extent.

I get that. But we need bigs desperately

And we'll recruit them, and probably sign a few as well. This isn't Rick Barnes' first rodeo. He knows what we need better than any of us.

If it came down to our last scholarship though, and we NEEDED a big man, I'd still take a top-60 PG over some project big man that won't contribute immediately like Carmichael or Alexander (not a knock on him as a player either).

I just realized he is a 2017 recruit. I was thinking next year. My bad. Of course we take one more in 2017

So this new offer kid.

Was 6'11 255lb HS 3 star player that wasn't a high profile recruit

Redshirted at ST johns where he ate himself into the size of a tank.

Now plays right at the same limited minutes of kasongo at a juco at around 15min a game.

Tell me why on earth we should be excited about seeing this kid take up a spot we could use in 2017?

I don't see anybody saying we should absolutely sign him. Or that excited for that matter.

He should be last on the list, that's for sure. Obiagu should be our main priority. If we don't get obiagu, stokes or the any other big man on that list, it's a failure, imho.

Rivals had him 6'11" 280lbs, there was talk he was 6'11" 310lbs when he got to St. John's.

HS 3 star player that wasn't a high profile recruit

Had offers from Florida State, Miami, St. John's, Alabama, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Rutgers, Seton Hall, South Carolina, Wake Forest, Gergetown and Georgia.

Redshirted at ST johns where he ate himself into the size of a tank.

To be clear he redshirted because he was ruled ineligible, not because of his skill level.

It's funny, yet not surprising you stop the comparison at minutes played. Let's compare:

MPG:
RK: 15.6
AD: 16.6

PPG:
RK: 6.0
AD: 10.9

RPG:
RK: 4.9
AD: 7.3

PPG per 40:
RK: 15.5
AD: 26.2

RPG per 40:
RK: 12.5
AD: 17.6

Tell me why on earth we should be excited about seeing this kid take up a spot we could use in 2017?

Nobody has told you to be excited, you can do whatever you'd like, but it's quite obvious if you're gonna do a half ass job or researching a kid your opinion, or lack of excitement, should be easy to understand.
