What you mean?

That the staff recognized the potential for the 18/19 season and wanted to add a player that would make an impact this season. So they focused on a big time recruit or a grad transfer with the spot and didn’t consider developmental players so much

Yea I agree I think they were very picky

Being committed to one school and visiting another.

I can't see Barnes allowing that kind of secrecy

He hasn’t signed, not like Barnes is gonna release a statement saying he’s not a silent? Or do you think Barnes now won’t allow him to publicly commit to Tennessee because he’s taking a visit?

I think if he was a silent to us because of the AAU thing Barnes wouldn't allow him to visit other places.

The AAU was a possibility, not something the kid said.

Barnes can’t control what he does, and if Barnes encourages kids to take other visits like you had said I don’t see him doing the complete opposite and telling Burns he can’t. I’m sure they would prefer he didn’t but not a whole lot you can do.

Barnes can control what a kid does after a commitment. Sure he can

Not quite, if that was the case no kid would ever decommit.

And public/silent commit are 2 very different things.

Come on bto you know as well as I do Barnes isn't going to put up with a kid not doing what he wants. If the kid has told him he 100% is signing with us for the 2018 class and we have agreed he woudnt be visiting other places. Barnes isn't going to allow that

Again, what is Barnes going to do? Tell him he’s no longer allowed at UT?

ABSOLUTELY. He would and should cut bait if the kid didn't do what was agreed upon. Barnes is no nonsense and I respect that

Lol ok.

Austin Nichols was a silent to UT, he went to Memphis on a visit, mom got a nice promotion and he ends up at Memphis. You think CCM wanted him to visit Memphis? You think that when Nichols said he was going to that CCM told him he no longer had a scholarship offer from UT? Don’t think so.

And what kind of character kid did Austin Nichols turn out to be?

I rest my case

Lulz

Neither you or I know what was “agreed upon”, but I do know that if Tre Mann left UT and told coaches I’m gonna be a Vol, but momma says I need to visit UF first that coaches aren’t gonna tell him too bad, you’ve lost your spot.

Of course not. But a silent commitment is much different in my book. It's "I am a vol" no matter what. Again I don't buy into the benefit of being a silent but I damn sure don't with a straight shooter like Barnes that doesn't play recruiting games.

Exactly, you have a definition and think that is everyone’s, that’s isn’t necessarily true. To me a silent commit means you have told the staff you are coming to Tennessee, I don’t think it means you’ve sat down and signed a contract with the staff of what you will/will not do. Sometimes silent commits don’t end up at the school they’ve told the staff they will attend, that does happen.

Thank Heaven Cuonzo didn't play hard ball. That kid was way overrated

Silent to UT and didn’t end up at UT. Great example.

Burns isn’t a commit in reality. Don’t care if he told them he was.

As I said, not all silent commits do.

And that is fine, I understand that take and opinion, silent commitments don’t mean much coming from a 17-18 year old.

So what the hell is even the purpose?

Sounds like to me you are saying its nothing more than a recruit telling a staff they strongly lead for their services.
