Recruiting Discussion

Probably not McGhee baulkman punter Hubbs or anyone who got any significant minutes. I'd say it wouldn't be Carmichael or Owens either because Tyndall would fight hard not to lose those guys. The only one I could see wanting out is Mostella. I wouldn't think anyone else would want to transfer.

Carmichael has seemed to high on CT to want to play somewhere else, unless coach has to be let go.imo

I'd like to think CDT has been honest with him about how much work he needs and how much improvement he needs to be a contributor at the SEC level. Is he ready to put in that work?

I'm thinking outside the box a little in suggesting the idea of him moving on, but I don't think it's entirely out of the realm of possibility either.

Heck what is out of the real of possibility with our program lately. Haha

I may be wrong, but I doubt we ever have to worry about CDT being brutally honest with his players. And I haven't gotten the impression from Carmichael that he's afraid to put the work in. He has a long way to go to be the player we'd like him to be, but he has a couple of traits right now that can't really be taught, athletism and heart.

I can't see Carmicheal leaving at all . If he puts in the work he can be a very good backup at least . Depth is important

The way it sounded in the 247 article it sounds like we're only anticipating losing one guy at this point. The reason being is because Tyndall kept stressing that we'd get 2-3 more guys for the next signing period. He also stressed we need some perimeter scoring, which leads me to believe it is indeed Mostella. It will suck losing him, but its not like we're losing a double digit scorer. He can be easily replaced by Phillips Schofield or Dazon Ingram. I think we end up getting Gray,Trent, and a big man. Like Barreno or Thorne Jr. Don't rule out Alex Hicks too, because he seems to be wanting to be a vol.

Not saying I don't like Mostella I'm just saying he's very replaceable. Also Trent has a very nice shooting stroke and that leads me to believe he would be our shooting guard.

... You guys saying we won't lose much in Mostella are wrong. The dude is a gift. He has amazing potential if he could put it all together. And he's only 18/19 years old. By his senior year, he would be one of our best wing players.

I can't see it being Reese. Donnie Tyndall said he was recruiting over Armani and Derek to challenge them for this next season. He said he knows Derek and Armani are hard workers and they will elevate their game when the challenge gets hard. Also Derek's a senior anyway, so unless he graduated I doubt he's transferring.

TLDR; I think it's Mostella or Baulkman. The way we are actively recruiting more scoring guards makes me think we're going to lose on of ours.

Man I'm just reading between the lines. Baulkman played more than Mostella and he had a very injured shoulder. I think it has to be Mostella, and I think it for sure is a loss but Mostella is not irreplaceable at all.

Tennessee has just two scholarships to fill at the moment, but even Tyndall admitted the Vols might lose an outgoing transfer or two from the current roster.

“In today’s world of college basketball, there’s a lot of transfers, and a lot of kids coming and going, and unfortunately that’s the nature of the beast,” Tyndall said. “That’s the situation we have, and that’s the way it is right now. If you don’t understand that, and you’re not willing to accept that, then you get caught a step or two behind. We’re gonna evaluate our entire season. We’ll meet with these guys individually next week, and there may be one or two guys that come in and say, ‘Coach, this isn’t for me.’ There may not be any. We’ll see. But I think you always have to be prepared to lose a guy or two to the transfer list. That’s just the way it works, and we have to make the best decisions for us as that information starts to accumulate.
Did anyone read the article lol? It definitely sounds like there may be a chance that someone transfers but it doesn't sound guaranteed.

I hope not. I think he just needs time and he will be able to do more.

Reese couldn't ball at the YMCA. Usually I'm all about the "dirty work" type of players, but he's just not very good. Outside of Reese, there's not really anyone I would want to lose.

Maybe Punter or Baulkman, but I don't see either of those happening.

I don't want to lose Mostella but he seems like a candidate. Other than him IdK who would leave

Agree with this. I don't want to lose Mostella but he seems like a primary candidate.

Mostella committed to Oklahoma State in November 2012. In July 2013 he decommited from OSU and committed to Pittsburgh. Less than a year later he committed to TN. Fwiw.

Mostella is 21. I do agree that it would be a shame to lose him. It make take another year or 2 but if that light did come on for him he would be a monster.

I doubt you lose Baulkman because he would have to transfer down a level or sit out a year. I think losing Mostella/Reese (graduate transfer?) are the most likely. Carmichael seemed very into the games and he's also got a reputation as a hard worker.

I think the reason Tyndall is on 2 guards is because our current ones aren't really playmakers. None of them come to mind when you think of guards who can come off a ball screen and break defenses down. Tyndall wants multiple guys who can get in the paint and make plays for others.

Tyndall really is as dumb as I thought if he lets Mostella go. Makes me sick to think about losing one of our players with the most potential. Let him learn the system and he's going to be milk money. Roster full of bums and people are talking like it's ok if we lose a potential star. Bah.

Tyndall can't help it if Mostella doesn't want to be here. I think that's the case.

Ignorant drivel

Ignorant drivel

Explain how I'm ignorant, please. I've seen a lot of people on here post completely irrelevant, speculative, nonsense. But as long has you have the post count to back it up, you're a real fan with a serious opinion here in volnation.

I think this is why we don't have a "nation" link on ESPN, because our "fan base" on here is a damm hierarchy joke. If someone who is new the the forum questions a move by Tennessee theyre automatically labeled a "troll". I'm done on this joke ass forum. Keep pretending you're great fans "volnation". I canonly take about 5 of you guys seriously.

1. Mostella committed to 3 schools in about 18 months. So if he decided to go somewhere else it must be CTs fault. Ignorant
2. Freshman or not he didn't show nearly enough to think he would be "milk money" if he "learned the system". Ignorant
3. What the hell does milk money mean? Ignorant
4. Calling our whole roster bums. Ignorant

He could be a really nice player. But most folk are talking about who they think could decide to leave. One or two said with a good recruit we'd be fine. That's not a stretch.
