12:27 p.m. Spurrier lands big defensive lineman
He kept it a secret for a while, but it turns out that four-star defensive lineman Kenrick Ellis knew he wanted to be a Gamecock after visiting South Carolina last weekend. On Monday, he let the cat out of the bag, giving coach Steve Spurrier his sixth four-star recruit in a class that now has 23 commitments.
"I chose South Carolina because I believe in Coach Spurrier, and I believe he's going to get it done up there," the Lake Worth, Fla., native said."I just think there's a lot of opportunities for me at South Carolina to succeed." Ellis, the No. 12 defensive tackle in the nation, chose South Carolina over Tennessee, N.C. State and Rutgers, among others.
