Recruiting Central

You're right hillbilly about this being the first time Fulmer hasn't had a winning season to push on recruits. Considering the off the field trouble, the abysmal season, and the coaching changes, if we end up in the top 15 in recruiting then I think it should be considered one of Fulmers best efforts if not the best effort he's ever had.

I'll give CPF credit if he pulls it out. Also, I do not intend to gripe about the class. We, the fans, should support the recruits who choose to come to UT. All I am asking is is that the usual Pollyannas please do not try sugarcoating things by making ridculous statements about how it's better not to have highly rated recruits. A lot of people are making predictions about who we will and will not get. I can see Pope bailing for USC and Goggans bailing for AU and us not getting Hawthorne or Warren. We could just as easily wind up with a recruiting class tanked somewhere between 30 and 40 as we could wind up in the Top 15 classes.

ESPN insider has us at #17 class in country today...going to be an interesting week.

the guys with more heart and determination would of course.

That's not always true. RC had that but not the power. He was then a mediocre QB. Hell put me out there and I'll have heart and determination but that don't guarantee I'll make the catches and plays all the time. They have to be there mentally as well. They have to be able to soak up the plays and be able to read the field like a kid's book. I want heart and determination but I want skills and talent at the same time. I'll take the happy medium.

I know Warren is announcing on the locker room show tonight at 10. Does anyone know what time Mullins and Hawthorne are announcing? I read that both will announce today.

From Rivals ticker today:

11:20 a.m. Watson decides on Florida State

Three-star linebacker Dekoda Watson visited Virginia Tech and Tennessee the last two weekends, but apparently neither showed him as much as Florida State did three weeks ago. The Aiken, S.C., prospect has decided he will be a Seminole, turning down the home-state Gamecocks in addition to the Hokies and Vols.

"He's always been a Florida State fan," Watson's father Watson told Warchant.com. "It was his dream to go to Florida State." Watson is the 22nd player to commit to Florida State, and the Seminoles currently rank seventh in the Rivals.com Team Recruiting Rankings.

Isn't ESPNEWS gonna be showing a lot of the signings today? That or ESPNU... hopefully the former.

Also, from the middle of the night we get this tidbit.

12:19 a.m. Syracuse pulls in big-time receiver

Syracuse added a huge piece to its 2006 class Sunday when four-star wide receiver Andrey Baskin picked the Orange over Tennessee. The Camden, N.J., prospect, who also had offers from N.C. State and Ohio State, is the No. 6 player in the Garden State and the No. 32 receiver in the nation.

Baskin, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 192 pounds, is the second four-star prospect on a Syracuse commit list that also boasts six 3-star prospects and has moved into the top 50 nationally.

Also, the Rivals ticker reports that Warren said he is still a Fl. State commit as of Sunday. I'm cautiously optimistic but I do not know why. Does anyone really think we get B.W.? :cross:

Yeah...picked Syracuse "over" Tennessee. Riiiight. We pulled our offer. That is why he picked Syracuse "over" Tennessee. I hope him the best of luck at Syracuse though.

Here's another one for the ole' ball coach.

12:27 p.m. Spurrier lands big defensive lineman

He kept it a secret for a while, but it turns out that four-star defensive lineman Kenrick Ellis knew he wanted to be a Gamecock after visiting South Carolina last weekend. On Monday, he let the cat out of the bag, giving coach Steve Spurrier his sixth four-star recruit in a class that now has 23 commitments.

"I chose South Carolina because I believe in Coach Spurrier, and I believe he's going to get it done up there," the Lake Worth, Fla., native said."I just think there's a lot of opportunities for me at South Carolina to succeed." Ellis, the No. 12 defensive tackle in the nation, chose South Carolina over Tennessee, N.C. State and Rutgers, among others. I think Duke Calhoun just made it official, he's a Memphis Tiger.

Anybody remember that post on here a couple months back, basically outlining players coming back by position?? Can't find the thread....Any of you folks willing to outline our WR depth chart for 06/07???

This seems to be what UT is looking at in recruiting;
OL - Geathers - heard nothing other that might not have scores
WR - Hawthorne - would be a surprise announces at 4-4:30 cst today
TE - Goggans - us or bama
TE/DE - Warren - doubt we get him - announces tonight
DE - Whitehead - we are one of 4
DT - Patterson - got a realistic chance
DT - Mullins - Us or AU - announces tomorrow
LB - Josh Johnson - don't know much here
LB - Sheppard - tossup UT or LSU
LB/S - Riley - tossup UT or LSU - I think LSU has an edge here
S - Greg Davis - probably depends on Riley
Ath - Heath - probably out of it since he was a no show this weekend

Of these 12, who do you think we get? Did I miss anyone?

If I'm not mistaken it goes like this:

Meachem: Jr. starter
Swain: Sr. starter
Smith: Sr. starter
Grimes: Jr.
Briscoe: So.
Rogers: So.
Taylor: So.
Shelley: RS Fr.

That's assuming a three reciever set and doesn't include TE's. I hope I'm not forgetting anyone.

idk when he announces but 4 eh? shouldnt that mean he is announcing right now??

Yeah exactly. I thought I saw it on one of the threads here earlier that 4 was when he announces.
